Loss of appetite

Hi guys! My 7 month old border collie, Keyser, has seemed to have lost his appetite. I feed him twice a day, and I feed him the recommended amount for his weight (he weighs about 30 lbs.), but lately, he just won't eat very much at all...And he won't eat at all if I don't tell him to. He is very hyper, and I think a lot of the time it's because he would rather play fetch with is treasured tennis ball. But I don't know. I'm a little bit worried. I know he has to be hungry, because when me and my husband get something to eat, he begs. He has eaten the same food (Diamond) since I brought him home, because that is what the previous owner fed him, and his tummy seemed to do well with it. Does anybody have any suggestions? Anything would be appreciated. Maybe I'm just a worrywart, and he will eat when he gets hungry enough...

He will eat when he gets hungry enough. My guess is that he's just gone through a growth spurt and isn't needing as much as when he was in it. You don't say where you're from, but if it's been above ave. temps, it's going to slow his eating down as well. Also, if you've every given him table treats, then he's going to hold off on his food in the hopes of getting more treats. He's at that age where he's learning to be independant. As long as he's staying active and healthy, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Yes I wouldn't worry as long as he still runs around and drinks. Also, I believe dogs eat less when it's hot.

Something you can do is leave the food out only 15 minutes, then remove it. Eventually he should understand that when it's food time, he needs to eat, and not play, and he will eat if he's hungry.
