Sick Spike

My parents fur baby AKA my little brother, is sick.
We were just over so I could do my mom's nails.
They said he hasn't eaten or drank anything today.
He was fine yesterday but woke up sick. He threw
up a little 'spit'. He was happy to see me, of course.
He is sleepy, looks tired too just laying around.
He isn't yappy, he usually is a yapper. He lift to pee
but nothing came out. He felt warm to me like he might
have a fever but I didn't have a thermometer there.
He wouldn't poop for me either so didn't get to look
for stuff. I brought out a retractable leash I keep in the
car and he perked up a bit. I took him for a little walk
out back and he seemed to like that. He wanted to leave with me too.
That's a good sign. I gave him a doggy message
all the dogs love when I do that. I talked to him and
babied him a bit. When I left he was a little more himself.
He was in the living room watching TV with my mum.
He had been staying in the den where his crate is--very not Spike!
To me, it looked like he may have had some labored breathing as well. They
are going to see how he feels tomorrow. I will be
checking up on him. Poor guy he came up the steps
one step at a time
Any ideas?
They recently had the deck resealed. I wonder if that has anything
to do with it? But he isn't drooling. He isn't even eating grass
so I was telling pops I don't think it is 'just a stomah ache'.
OK-your thoughts?

If he isn't 100% tomorow I said I will call MY vet and take him in myself.

I would do the same thing if not better within 24 hours - the vet would be seeing our faces.

I wanted to call her right away tonight when I got there, but they wouldn't have it.
I guess since it hasn't been 24hrs and he did perk up for me, I can hold off till morning.
thanks Dax!

I hope he feels better. Do your folks know what to look for in case he takes a turn for the worse? We really need to invent a way for them to tell us what's wrong. Imagine how much time & worry that would save.

There are the usual signs of distress I would look for. Excessive drooling, whining, collapsing, convulsions, vomiting, diaherra with blood, generally any signs that the dog is in trouble.

Ok I covered them all.
I made the list for them while I was there & said to call me if they
needed to anytime. I felt bad because he really wanted to come with me.
He always does. I didn't take him because he is sick & I don't want anything to
happen if he is here AND I can't risk my 3 getting sick too! I promised
him if he felt better he could spend the night tomorrow
Usually he sleeps over at least every other weekend.
I love the little chubber so much, I'm worried sick about him.
I'll be calling first thing in the morning bugging them!

Just talked to my mom. Spike is the same.
She said after I left yesterday he went back in the den...alone.
I am going to get dressed and go over. I will take my stethoscope
and thermometer. I figure I can listen for tummy noises.
If he again perks up for me he is coming home with me.
My sister & her chihuahua are there and they get all the
attention. Spike loves to be babied but my parents aren't
like that with him But I AM
Thanks

Maybe ask your parents when is the last time he pooped and peeped. Is he very old?

Hope he's ok. You are in my thoughts.

I hope he's feeling better soon!

It's probably a good idea to take him back with you. He'll probably feel better after getting babied!!
