Red face Cali is sick

Sorry, but this seems to be a spay surgery that won't end. It's been three days since surgery and every day her stool has been very soft. However, today it was explosive. As you know where??? While we were walking in PetSmart!!! I looked down and ... next thing, I'm on my hands and knees cleaning up the huge mess. And, then I hear, "Debbie, is that you?" It was our pastor! Good grief.

Is this normal after this surgery? Could it be the anesthesia? I've just taken her off her regular food and put her on a bland diet and had some leftover meds from a bout with diarehea. She seems normal in every other way.

Debbie , from what I have experienced, no that is not normal. It also may be related to something else. You should call your vet if it doesn't clear up in day. In the mean time you can give your dog some Immodium , to help. For a dog about 70-80 pounds you would give a child's dose. for a smaller dog give half of child dose to a quarter. It works, but call the vet, a call never costs anything and will put your mind at rest either way.

Keep us updated. Thanks.

I would call your vet (again LOL). Especially since she was whining when peeing. None of my dogs had anything like this. By day 3 - it was almost back to normal.

Is she on any meds from the spay? Antibotics or pain killers. Do you have access to the side effects?

Angry

She was on pain meds Wed and Thurs (it was oral in a syringe so I don't even know what it was they gave her). Nothing other than that. She's not whining anymore when she pees. I think when she squated, it was pulling on the incision. There's only so many times I want to wash the floors at PetSmart with the pastor watching.

She just had a fecal exam before her surgery and it was negative. If she's not better tomorrow, I'll take her in to the vet. One good thing about this vet, he's open on Sunday's.

Might be from the pain meds.
My collie was terrible after his alter surgery.
They gave pain meds that made his stools
'squirty'. I had to give him boiled rice & chicken.
I hope that's all it is with your girl.
Side Note: he got hooked on the catered
dining and I had a hard time getting
him back on his food But they are worth it!

Good Luck and kep us posted, poor girl.
Smooches from us.

Most likely it was metacamm if it was dispensed in pre-measured syringes. Debbie, I think it is time to call the vet, sorry With all that seems to be going on, I would rather be safe than sorry.

How is her appetite? Her activity level? Is she drinking well? Is there a way you can take her temperature?
