changing food sched
When do I start changing a dog's eating schedule from 3 meals a day, to 2 meals a day? Like, from what age should he be eating 3 meals a day to? My pup's 3 months and 2 days old, and my parents have been telling me to switch him to two big meals a day.

If I remember correctly, the vet told me to to switch to 2 meals shortly after 8 weeks of the pup's age.

I switched Ariel at around 6 months. How often is not as much of a concern as the daily ration. Smaller meals more often is recommended for larger breeds with deep chests can sometimes develop bloat or dogs with sensitive digestive system.

I have my 8 month old Sheltie on half puppy/half adult (since he was neutered at about 6 mos. of age.. and now is loosing his hormones), and I feed him once a day. I'm sort of selfish though.. I feed him dinner due to the possibilty of accidents if fed breakfast. Especially with a work schedule.
But larger breeds, I definitely agree need more than once a day feedings. |
