Unhappy

We've had our dog, Luckie, for about a year now and he's taken to peeing inside the house. Luckie did not have this problem when we kept him inside during the winter. He would hold it until we took him outside. For the last two months, however, he's taken to peeing inside the house as soon as he comes in, and as soon as he wakes up. Luckie knows he is wrong as well because as soon as he finishes peeing, he starts to lick it up. We've tried yelling "NO" to make him stop and taking him outside to show him the correct area to pee. We also congratulate him whenever he pees outside, but it does no good. Just keeping him outside does no good, because he likes to sleep on the narrow steps directly in front of the door. He wil then pee as soon as he wakes up or is excited to see us. I would try to crate train him but I am afraid that he will inside his own crate. Luckie has peed in every place he has slept in. We don't understand why Luckie does what he does, because we certainly have not encouraged him to do that. I don't think that it is because of a scent for we have a wood and tile floor, which should come out clean with soap and water. If anybody has any suggestions, please HELP!!

Back to the basics. Remember what it was like when he was a little puppy and you took him out every 20 minutes? And right away after he woke up? Right now you have to go back to that. Don't let him out of your sight, even when he is sleeping. You wake him up to go to the bath room and reward him intensely.

My only other thought is to consult your vet. There could be a medical reason behind it. Bladder infection, bladder stones, UTI. Is he acting like the normal Lucky other than his messing in the house? Is he eating and playing like normal?

Hopefully you can get this situation corrected and don't give up hope. An one year old dog is still a puppy for the most part and they need lots of time to grow and develop. Consistency will be the key.
