Question raw feeding

There has been several discussions on raw feeding in some other forums I visit on occasions. Some favored raw feeding, some did not. The people that did not favor it seemed to be rude and outrageous in their thoughts.

That got me thinking. What do you guys think about raw feeding?

I believe there are dangers to it. But I also have heard numerous times that raw feeding has helped many owners and dogs with epilepsy. Obviously if this diet can do something that great for those owners and the dog, I can't be against it.

What is your stand on raw feeding?

There are a lot of different opinions on raw feeding on this forum...

Personally, I like to stick to the proven healthy prepared food. I have no reason to challenge the diet that my guy is already on.

My opinion is that it is an owner's choice. As long as the owner accepts responsiblity for his/her own actions then both are acceptable.

I don't believe RAW feeding is wrong but I think it would require a lot more education and work on behalf of the owner. Packaged dog food is far more convenient and certainly beats table s*****. I also believe that dogs do benefit (just like humans) from added fresh veggies.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it-it has been recommended to me as the owner of an epileptic dog, but I chose to feed high quality dry dog food- the costs and preparation of the raw diet just do not fit my lifestyle. My dogs have very healthy shiny coats and I am always being complemented at the vets as to the condition of my animals, so I do not believe they are hard done by. I have friends that feed the raw diet and are happier then ever and would never switch back to dry. I guess I'm just being long winded and saying "To each their own"

I agree that if you want to feed raw food, you must be willing to do the sizeable amount of research first. Though, those who do the upfront work and make the switch, are avid supporters. I just simply researched the packaged brands and picked what I thought was best. I just don't have the time to even attempt the raw thing. I do give my dogs raw carrots, brocolli and cantalope in small bits. I give them this instead of treats.

Thrills, I also have a dog with seizures. Someone had recommended raw feeding to me, but I am still just a kid. I have no time for that. Although, I am trying to convince my parents to switch our dogs off the junk they are eating right now to something better.

I'm glad everyone so far has an open mind about raw feeding! I've come across several individuals that were very rude and obnoxious with their opinoins. One had even told me that anyone that feeds raw should be shot dead!

Yup, and those people are often very uneducated about RAW feeding and very closed minded.

I feed RAW and with wonderful results. Dog are meant to eat that way. There are many threads on this where I have posted link after link to prove the benefits of raw feeding. My dog are proof it is a very healthy choice if done corretcly. You must have the time and knowledge to do it right. I also have the back up from my vet.

RAW feeding requires a lot of reading and research. It must be done correctly. If you like I can post the links again.

Do not let people discourage you, Tessa, it is a good sound choice for your dog but like I have said before it is NOT for everyone. Time and dedication is what it requires.

Although I won't be feeding my dogs raw anytime soon, I would like to be able to read those links.

The more knowledge the better!(Plus, maybe I'll gain more knowledge on it and others will stop calling me stupid! )

That is one person's opinion. There are many many more sites that promote the " good " of feeding raw. My dogs have been on a raw diet for years now with NO ill effect and only excellent results.
