Treats?

For my puppy I've been using peanut butter as a treat, in VERY small quantities but my friend is telling me that peanut butter is not the best for dogs. Is this true? And if so, what do you recomend I use for my puppy? What's your favorite to give your pup?

I use a different brand of dog food as treats. I give Ol' Roy dinner rounds. Not a very good dog food, but healthy that most dog treats. Plus, you can buy a whole lot for a low price.

I use bits of carrot and green beans - Daisy loves them and thinks they are special treats. I don't know what part of the country you live in but in the west there is a chain called Trader Joes. They sell all natural and organic type dog food and treats. I buy a bag of little treats that are liver snaps. They say they are 3 calories each and they are the size or smaller than an oyster cracker. You get a big bag for a reasonable price. She gets one or two of those when she goes in her crate.

Kirby eats peanut butter in rather large quantities. He loves the stuff... Many of his treats and his toothpaste are flavoured to it... I stuff his toys with it... He's never had a negative reaction and he's not a tad over-weight. But at the same time, I always take into account what he has eaten and take away from his kibble amounts.

Ice cubes, peanut butter, carrots, apples and tomatoes. Those are his favourite treats.

I have never had a problem when giving it to my girl but she only gets it occasionally. Sometimes, for a treat I'll give her an apple with a bit of peanut butter on it and she loves that.

I think some people argue that peanut butter is too fat. So of course it's not good if you have an overweight dog, otherwise it's fine.
