HI!Can anybody tell me when it's the right time to start feeding your dog senior dog food?Ussually I hear that yuo should start giving your large dog senior food when the dog is araund 7 yrs.Well my dog is 4,5 yrs old and she already has a grey muzzle and she is very calm and is getting fat.I want to exercise her everyday(by walking)-but she now doesn't want to go on walks anymore. Is this normal?!She never was high energetic dog-she was always lazy.So...Do you think I should start feeding her senior dog food?
PS:Sorry about my english(I'm still learning)-I hope you understand what I want to know. |

I suggest you talk to your vet about it. I have always heard 5-8 years old depending on the breed.

I agree, the vet can tell you what's best for your dog. Although, senior food generally provides less energy doesn't it? She'd become more "lazy" I think.

Senior food does provide fewer calories. It also provides different vitamins and other things suitable for an older dog. Also, if a dog is getting too many calories it can become lethargic because it's overweight.

Thanks for your answers- I will talk to my vet to see what he has to say.Oh and I just want to ask what do you think about science diet food cause I was thinking that I should start feeding my dog with that foof(if not food for seniors than low calories food).

Personally, I do not like Science Diet. Right now, I'm having to feed prescription food to my cat, but it's only because I have no other brand to choose from. I have also noticed that most varieties do not taste as good as other foods.

Good suggestions:
My Mickey is like 8 years old, I loose track of time, and I really hadn't thought much about senior dog food. He's still really active. He loves to play dog ball and tosses his chewies around. Now we have Molly and she keeps him busy with playing.

Did you see your vet about this question? If you haven't then I suggest you do, they can give you the correct information unlike us.
