How long until nipples reduce - or do they?

We just adopted a five-year old female JRT who lost a litter eight weeks ago. This is her second litter lost, with only one successful full-term delivery when she was two. For that reason, the breeder decided to put the dam in a family home where she wouldn't have to perform.

We plan to have her spayed in the next two weeks and I was wondering if she will have a reduction in the size of her nipples once this is done? She doesn't seem to have any fullness or milk whatever, just distended nipples. Do these come back up on their own after a time and will the spaying make any difference?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think the spay will do anything. They may recede a little over time, but they will never be the same as if she had never had puppies.

My female Doberman has had 2 litters, both before I rescued her. I got her at about 14 months, she was very saggy, and had just been spayed. Her nipples went up very nicely. You can hardly tell anymore. I was very surprised how much they went up.
I was told by the rescue the spay helps alot.

That's not fair! It didn't help Ginger at all. She only had one litter and was spayed soon after. That was about ten years ago and you can still tell that she had puppies at some point. They've gone up a little over time, but are still a bit saggy.

Meka has a bit of loose skin at the lowest point, and looks a bit saggy, but other than that if she had longer fur you would never know.
If she was not passed out cold, I would take a picture.

My dog has had 2 litters, the last was on May 16th of this year and her saggy-ness has reduced greatly. She has been going for lots of walks so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but you can hardly tell she's just had babies at all now!

I think it just depends on the individual dog - some just take longer than others. But it should defintely get better over time. I've also heard that it does improve once spayed.

Here are a couple of pictures of my girl 10 weeks after giving birth:

She is slightly saggy still of course but way better than she was. Her actual teats are bigger than they used to be but I think they will always be that way now.

Sorry I couldn't get a better picture of her laying down she kept moving!

Lilly is so beautiful!

We have a basset hound up the road and I see her often walkingwith her owner-very nice both of them. When I first saw her I asked if she had pups at home. Her owner laughed and said no she had a litter over a year ago but she sagged and stayed that way. They have not spayed her because they want to have another litter probably this fall. Honestly that dog probably would not tuck back up, she REALLY looks like she is nursing pups. She'd need a plastic surgeron. I dout your dog is as busty as this one.
My Sharon lost a litter this spring to resorption. It took a few months for her to go back t normal in that area. Good luck!
