Doberman Puppy

Decision making time. The breeders are willing to work out a deal on a red female (work exchange) for the difference in price between her and the black male. We love them both!!!

Okay... the black male is definitely more energetic, outgoing, playful and such, but will still calm down when you hold him and barely struggles/wiggles when on his back.

The red female is more shy at first, just sitting back and watching you, as if she's thinking about it all. If you try to approach her right off the bat, she will hide from you. But after a minute or two, she's open and playful, though not as energetic as the male. More of a relaxed playfulness. Her favorite place to hide is in your lap, with her head shoved between your side and your arm.

Which one do we want!!!?!?!?!?!?! We want a guard dog, to protect the home, but also a family dog that will be outgoing around friends and family (whichever we get will be well socialized with people and dogs).

All you experienced puppy people? Based on this, which do you think is our better choice? If you need more info, feel free to ask away!!

pics are in the Hello! and New Puppy!! thread.

I would say the males sounds more of an advantage for guard dog...but the female would be good with family and friends, soooo, why not take both!!

Looking at it that way, I would go for the male. The female sounds a bit too timid. But you must be sure to fix the male before it gets too agressive.

And don't forget that good training can last for a life time, so be sure to train the pup once you get him

I would pick the male, purely because he's more outgoing. I like mine to be bouncy, and willing to learn.

Can you spend more time with both? Get to know them a little better?
Maybe one on one, without the whole litter butting in LOL
Good Luck, follow your heart they are both adorable!

I could go see them more and play more.

I took them each away from the group for about 45 minutes tonight to play and see how they behave without the ruckus going on.

Don't worry... neutering/spaying and training are definites for this pup!!!

I have both a male and a female Doberman. My male is much more easy going. I think in the future I will opt for boys.
