oh boy...

Well, I was up until 3 am and up again at 6 am to the heavy breathing of Grasshopper in the waterbed . So, a bit tired....but she did not want to to outside so I had to take her out. She appears a bit 'slow' today. Her temp is 99.5, up from 98.5 yesterday. She isn't panting, but immediatley came in the house and wanted on the couch. I put a blanket on it and she went crazy digging at it . She acts terribly uncomfortable. Could be today?!

If your talking about birthing puppies, yet, the temp dropped to 99 or 98 it is withing 24 hours.

I would say most likely her digging on the couch she is trying to make a hole like the wild dog days. She needs to be in a whelp box now. Just give her water today. During hard labor u can whip an egg with tbsp of sugar for a quick pick up. No Food!!

Keep us posted today on her progress for I feel by this evening she will start birthing. Digging, temp drops are all signs of labor and get ready to whelp. I whelp each pup, weigh it, mark in my book the time, sex, weight, ribbon the neck and put back on mommy. Keep an eye she does not plop down on a couple born in her pain, she might forget and smother them by accident. Be there to keep an eye and help her.

If she does not whelp withing two hours another pup u might need to walk her next pup out. Good Luck!!
Pat

Good advice Sheplovr.
Yes ChiChi its going to be soon, especially if she was digging into the blanket. Im sure if you were to make her a box with towels and newspapers she would shred the newspaper up. Thats what our dog Sidnie always did.

sheplovr, yes, little chihuahuas! Thanks for all the advice everyone! Nothing new yet, all is the same. I have a place for her but she doesnt want anything to do with it! grrrrr....she wants to be in my waterbed!! double grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... But hopefully she will accept the other spot, my sheets are new

She is very quiet right now. - uh, until I typed that last paragraph. Now she is up walking around aimlessly. No puppies are having boxing matches in there today, they seem to have really settled down in there. Her tummy has gotten very hard over the past couple of hours. OOOOOOOOOOOO, yes, could be little anchovies tonight, and not for dinner! Yup, there goes the little bark for 'let me up on the couch' thing she developed after she got to big to jump on it herself. *puts blanket and grasshopper on couch She just isn't comfy anywhere it seems. Can't blame her, I know I wasn't!

She does not have any fluid coming from her rear end at all. No milk dripping, but definately full.

whimzikal, the anchovie can could open soon! LOL

Geez; I have to go get horse hay today......oooooo......maybe I can get my husband to it so I can babysit?!! I certianly don't want to leave right now! OMG! Going to be a long day.........................

Oh Jeez ChiChi! LOL I hope all is well!...1 problem is though..usually dogs pick the place they want to have the babies (Yikes!)- everytime we made Syd a place she always went some where else. Once the puppies were born though we carried them to the place we made and Syd followed us there and than she would stay there.
Grasshopper just of might picked your water bed LOL
