Pit Bull Ban in Denver

I heard about this on another forum. They have passes a Breed Ban law on Pit Bulls and any dog that lookd like a Pit.

http://www.detnews.com/2005/nation/.../A06-254240.htm

I think it's completely ridiculous! Breed Ban isn't the answer. Now, I can see them requiring a "permit" to have a dog period. THAT makes sense to me!.....that helps insure you won't abuse the right to own a dog.

I didn't know Pits were banned in Miami and Cincinatti(sp?), but they are

Any one know where I can find a complete list of where you CAN'T have a pit looking dog?

Thumbs up

Oh MY, always something right?

I will ask the St. POlice we clean their cars and they are over here alot. One owned 3 Pits, put one down as its temperment started to change.
I think also Permits should be made on them and maybe a few others. I know if some insurance companies would know how many families have Rottys, Dobes and Shepherds your insurance goes up or we loose it, not sure how it works.

It is because of poor training and bad owners. Poor dogs are not born mean, they are angels and grow up in bad hands is my personal opinion.

I will try and find out, here in Pa they are good to go yet.

I know its insane. Shepherds are great sweet dogs, same with all of them that are on the "watch list".
Its because of Dog Fighting is why they banned them in Denver and Miami.

Actually GS.. it's not why they banned them in Denver. They are saying that they were too many pit attacks with children and other civillians.

Also there is a theory that in order to "clean-up" Denver (meaning the other races such as Hispanics or Blacks) they want to outlaw the pits. That way the people will leave Denver with their dogs.

Yesh but im curious as to why there were so many attacks?
If the wrong people are owning the dogs, they could asl be using them for Dog Fights.
That way you could understand why a dog would do what it does.
I mean, arent alot of blacks and hispanic people into dog fighting, not thatw hite people arent, but its an easy way to make money, for someone who cant get a job, ect.

banning dogs is not the solution because it is not gonna stop bad people from breeding and raising bad dogs.. it will only hurt the good ones.

Ken posted that, not that long ago.

It is ridiculous and most dog clubs and the CKC and AKC oppose this. They banned pitbulls in the closest city to me years ago. They didn't chase them out of town they just didn't allow anymore new one in. But I still think it is wrong.

Again- No bad dogs, just bad owners.

Dog fighting is bad, yes, but dog fighting doesn't produce people-aggressive dogs. It produces dog- aggressive dogs. People-aggressive and dog-aggressive is COMPLETELY different. MANY dogs that had been involved in fights go to rescue and find wonderful homes. Just because a dog is dog-aggressive, doesn't mean it will be people-aggressive. Aggressiveness towards people is not suppose to be in the breed and ones that show this aggressiveness should be properly rehabilitated or put down. There IS rehabilitation for aggressive dogs, though some never pull through. A Bully breed can be dog aggressive even if it has never been fought, and even if it has been properly socialized! Dog aggresiveness is just in the breed....from WAY back. Some are ok with other canine friends, and some you can never trust. But, proper socialization and obedience training will help you keep it under control. It's basically owner common sense!
