Another food?

Okay, we're at our wits end. We've successfully (re: properly) changed our dogs' food (Eucanuba) to Wellness about three months ago. I researched fairly well for a time, asking various breeders and (dare I say it?) "dog" people, both on the forum and personally about this food and do believe it is very good. That isn't the problem.

The problem we have is that they hate it! We have to "doctor" it up with something (usually cottage cheese or yogurt) for them to eat it. I want them to eat it like it's their last meal. I also don't want to have to add something to natural food as that simply counteracts the concept.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I might try next? Please don't suggest any of most of the junk that is out there.

BTW, the dogs are Chloe and Winston, two of the most beautiful Bearded Collies on the planet. Thanks.

Which Wellnes are you feeding? Fish, duck, lamb, etc. it might just be that the dogs don't like that particular flavor and you can just try a different Wellness flavor.

Most dogs really, really like chicken soup for the dog lover's soul. These are the stats for it.
Quote:
Ingredients:
Chicken, turkey, chicken meal, turkey meal, whole grain brown rice, whole grain white rice, oatmeal, potatoes, cracked pearled barley, millet, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), duck, salmon, egg product, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, kelp, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, chicory root extract, carrots, peas, apples, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake. Vitamins and minerals.

Guaranteed Analysis:
Crude Protein 24
Crude Fat 14
Moisture 10
Crude Fiber 3
Omega-6 Fatty Acids (min) 2.2
Omega-3 Fatty Acids (min) 0.4
Sodium 0.3
This site has a whole lot of different brands to compare (not all good). http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/d...sp?dept%5Fid=1 Generally dogs will prefer foods that have lots of meat ingredients especially as the first few listed.

I would try another type of wellness? Different flavor?

Otherwise go back to your research and this time look for flavor too. My dogs love their chicken flavored AvoDerm, eat it very well with no flavorful things on top. It's a great natural product that's good for coats, which would be a good thing with those bearded collies.

Excellent responses and feedback; just what I was hoping for. The Wellness currently being used is the Super 5 Mix (protein, fruits, veggies, etc.) I think I'll get a small bag of both the chicken-flavored and also the Heartsong, which our local retailer sells, too. Thank you so much for the help; just what this forum is for. I'll report back after a thorough "ingestigation".

If you are feeding kibble, commercial dog food, try Nutros. Always check your ingredients, never feed a food that says- Meat by product ( mystery meat ) or tallow. Make sure the food states exactly what is in it. IE: Chicken, Beef etc.

There are some nasty things in commercial dog foods that are of lower quality, those are foods bought in a grocery store or dept store. Always read your label.

I am betting if your dogs will not eat the food they are on now there is a reason beauce most dogs will eat just about anything if it smells good to them and tastes good to them as well.

Wellness is better than nutro by a long shot.

I would try with another formula as well.
