Eating Dirt.

Why is Kirby eating dirt?
No war cracks, please. LOL.

He went out today... and decided to eat all the dirt out of one of my grandma's potted plants. Didn't care for the plant. Didn't even care for my brother's potted strawberry bush right beside it. Just ate dirt.

...And of course he had to come into the house with his muzzle all dirty.

So, do you think there's any specific reason, or is Kirby just being Kirby?

I think boys will be boys. Bogey eats dirt now and then. But Moo - he has been spewing dirt all week so he's probably gotten quite a taste for it - couldn't help it - sorry. LOL

I have a sand pile in the backyard for the dogs to play in...get out that sudden need to dig something up. Angel just loves to go there and eat dirt or I hope it's dirt. I have a couple outdoor cats...I will leave that to your imagination.

Lilly is a girl and even she will occasionally eat dirt. She's done it since puppyhood - I think its just like eating grass to her! She doesn't even eat the grass when she's sick she just eats it whenever she feels like it! I'm pretty sure it's normal.

I don't think it means anything is wrong. In kids if they eat dirt all the time they have some sort of a mineral deficiency (pica) I think it's just a Kirby thing to do today. Mara ate a dead fish at the river today, then she rolled in a rotten old potato someone had thrown away. Man do rotton potatoes stink!!!!!!! Well don't have to give her fish oil pill today.

It will NOT hurt the dog to eat some dirt, mine do all the time. They are craving a mineral they cannot get from anything we offer. My horses also used to eat a nice size hole for minerals.Vet told me to ignore it will not kill them and it did not that was many moons ago now.

Just like eating grass to spit up from a sour stomach, mine do that too.. U could give a tsp of Pepto to help.?

Pat
