Eye "goobers"

My 18 month old mutt Piper has been having a lot of eye goobers (conjunctivitis??) lately. They are clear, white and sometimes green. I am going to the vet on Thursday but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about what could be causing this. They don't seem to be bothering him, he isn't rubbing his eyes or rolling around.

None that we know of. We gave him his heartworm meds this morning, but he has never reacted this way before.

Environmental allergies are very high right now where I live. Also it could be a foreign object that is in the eye, or an ingrown eye lid, etc.. There are so many possibilities. Good luck at the vet

This morning he got up and when I turned on the lights he closed his eyes and would not open them. He opened them just enough to see where he was going and then would just lie there with his eyes closed, he was awake just sitting there with his eyes closed. I am really worried, he is going to the vet TODAY.

yesh! let us know what the vet says. When goobers were green there is an infection. Clear and white are normal though.

Went to the vet yesterday, she said it was an infection that he probably got from the pond at the dog park or from another dog who may have licked him in the eye. They did an eye stain, flushed out a lot of "goobers" (and I mean A LOT) then gave us some cortisone with a steroid cream that we have to put IN his eye...he loves when we put things IN his eyes. But he looks better and no longer wanders around with his eyes barely open.
