Dog

Please forgive, for I am in quite a mood from work. It probably was the toughest night I had since working at the clinic. A dog that we have been successfully treating for lymphoma took a turn for the worse and he was euthanized tonight. It was so very heartbreaking for all.

So in my sappy mood here is my entry into the dog wars.

Hi! I am a dog. I might be big, I might be small. Maybe I am black, or possibly white, or some combination of any color. But it doesn't really matter, now does it? Because I could be a Mastiff or a Chihuahua, my ultimate job in life is to make you feel loved. My love for you is so strong. I just want you to be happy, at any expense, including mine. There is nothing you can do to make me stop loving you. I will protect you and support you and try to make you smile. Even though I might make you frustrated at times, really I am just trying to figure out how I can make you happy. I want to make you giggle, I want you to feel secure, I want you to love life for what it is. Unconditional love. Does it get any better?

So coming from a die hard lab lover, I am throwing in the towel. Because honestly, what difference does it make? Every dog makes the best of out of what is given to them, and they are also some of the most unselfish creatures that God could have made. So I don't really care if it is a retriever, or a shepherd, or a coton d' huh? A dog is a dog. Let us appreciate them in all forms.

Normally, I am not an overly sappy person but tonight got me. Even with this dog on his death bed, all he wanted to do is please his owner. It broke my heart.

So give your dog a good hug, and who cares if mine retrieves and yours protects, or mine is black and yours is white. Love them all for just being dogs.

And I promise to stop being sappy. Now off to see if I can finally up load pictures of my labbies!!!

Making me sappy too! Greta, I often say that it is disgusting how much I love my dogs but this brings back they love me more.

HUGS - go have a beer

I think Greta is absolutly right. I feel terrible saying some of things Ive said. Especially to the little guy Kirby. I said some pretty nasty things. And plus...how do we really expect to end this war? There really is no best breed. All dogs are alike. Its just the tiny insignificant but unique traits that makes them a certain breed.

Oscar isnt a fighter. You guys know that. (You better not use this against me or Oscar calling up cousin Tanner) Though this little war was fun for a day or two...its getting somewhat useless. Im throwing in the towel too. Ill be enjoying my dog while you guys attempt to come up with come backs for your dogs LOL

eXile out...

Hey, I agree that dog wars are fun. Labs are the best. But when all is said and done, a dog is a dog, and there really is no superior breed.

I am in a much more sane mind today. What a completely miserable day yesterday.

The dog was hospitalized for the day and we didn't think he would make it through the night. We called the owner. The end of my day consisted of this dog's owner showing up in his hunting gear, camo, whistle and bumper. Just because his dog loved to hunt so much. He blew his whistle and the dog tried so hard to get up but he couldn't. But he wanted to, you could see it in his eyes. And then his owner gave him his bumper and the dog just thumped his tail as much as he could. His dying wish was to please his owner. Even Dr. Evil was in tears. This is a first for me. She usually hides her emotions very well.

It is so sad isn't it. We were at the vets the other week and there was a lady in the waiting room who was really upset as her dog had just been put to sleep. We were sat about 3 chairs down from her and my dog sort of bum shuffled down a bit and rested her head on this womans knee. Well, that set me off and it also set the Receptionist off! Everytime I remember it it makes me love my doggy so much!

OMG that is sooo sad!! I'm crying my eyes out too! It gives you a new perspective really - at the end of day all dogs are wonderful - no matter what breed, size, colour or anything else. We really are blessed to have such beautiful, loving and loyal companions to share our lives with and I am truly grateful for my dog! I don't know what I'd do without her!! Thank you GretaJack for posting such a heart-warming reminder of how utterly special our 'babies' really are!!
