When are annual boosters due?
OK, this may sound strange but I need to know when annual boosters are due. Are they due on the anniversary date of the first lot of puppy shots or the second lot of puppy shots? I’ve just got a letter through from the vets saying her annual check up and boosters are now due but if I book now that will be a whole month before the anniversary of the second lot of puppy shots or two weeks before the anniversary of her first lot of puppy shots.
Can somebody throw some light on when boosters are due? |

The booster should be due the 2nd anniversary, but there is no harm in getting it done earlier.

OK, thanks, that's what I thought, I've spent quite a bit of time at the vets over the last few months (I was only in there last week for her skin/fur check up!) and I really didn't want to go again this week if I could help it as I have so much going on!!! So I have a couple more weeks before I have to make the appointment - phew.

Actually, many vets are now advising to have titers done instead of automatically boosting.... some dogs carry the vaccine longer than others, and sometimes boosters CAN hurt them !!!! Where I live in Pennsylvania, my vet won't give lepto unless the owner INSISTS on it, because he's had too many dogs have severe reactions !!! (and sometimes the reaction is fatal) especially in the small dogs !!!

dirtydogdepo--you are right. Vaccines are NOT harmless. They can be fatal and can cause cancers.

This is our hospital's protocol:
Puppy vaccines 8 week - DA2PP (1st) 12 week - DA2PP (2nd) 16 week - DA2PP (3rd) and then Rabies Then 16 months gets DA2PP, Rabies, and Bordetella (as needed). Then about 2 yrs and 3 mos, give the 3 yr Rabies, DA2PP and there after they only return every 3 yrs for their vaccines. |
