how to know if your dog has studded

I allowed my dog to stud a breeders bitch. I enquired as to whether the bitch had caught and the breeder informed me that they weren't sure, but the bitch is due the pups TODAY.....Could you give any clues in how to check wether the bitch is pregnant? The breeder is certainly not sure as he asked me to feel the ******* stomach. I feel i am being had!
Please help in this matter

What was the breed of the dog, did you have a contract with the bitch's owner? How experienced is this breeder?

Question

firstly, thank you for the reply. My dog "Sam" is a Lhasa Apso. He is my first dog and love him to bits. He is 2 years old. I did not have a contract, but he was bought from the breeder. This is Sam's first attempt. I was quite surprised when the breeder told me he thought? the deed was done. Now he tells me the bitch has not caught (well he did'nt think so. He then tells me the bitch was scratching their tiles on the floor and maybe she was!!!) Confused...How do you think I am. Being a complete novice it has put me off Sam doing this again. The breeder talked me into studding Sam. As he is pure black in colour with a white band of colour round his neck. Apparently unusual. Sam's a lovely we dog.

Help!!!!!

Personally, doesn't sound like the 'breeder' knows what he is doing. He wanted to breed to Sam strictly for color?

Curious, did he ask you about Sam's hip, teeth, etc checks?
How do you know the 'breeder'?

I bought Sam from him 2 Years ago. He has asked to breed Sam on several occasions, but I always declined. The breeder is "unfortunatly" one of my neighbours. He did'nt ask any questions regarding Sam's health. I feel a bit of a fool asking these questions.
My friend wants a Lhasa, because of Sam's nature etc., this is why agreed to him being studded.

If it is a reputable breeder and they have breed before he/she would know if the dog was pregnant being the dog's pups are due today they should definatly be able to tell by now if they are breeders.

When I bought Sam the breeder gave me his pedigree papers and I dealt directly with the Kennel Club ie, the transfer from the breeder to my name. The official KC paper did have his name and his wife's name as the breeders.

doesnt sound like this so called breeder knows what he is doing, he would know what to look for, did the dogs tie? I'm sorry but I think you have been taken for a ride, when you brought your dog from this person was this the first litter he had raised? He sounds like he hasnt a clue whats going on

If the bitch is pregnant then it would be very obvious by now. Even in the first couple of weeks you can have an idea - they become more affectionate, may become lazy, get a little morning sickness, teats get more pronounced etc and then definitely by the 5th week her stomach should have expanded and by the 7th week the pups should start moving around etc. He could have had an ultrasound done by the first month and then x-rays could be done a week or 2 before the pups are due. He really doesn't sound very experienced at all - either that or he's lying to you. If it turns out that she is not in pup then I would strongly recommend you get a contract signed up for any other breeding purposes in the future. Also it is an excellent idea to get all his health tests done etc before breeding him (next time).

If you plan to have him sire a litter I would recomend that you choose your bitch carefully
