Asked to breed said NO i'm proud

I am so proud someone asked me to let there shepherd breed mine (when she's old enough) and i said NO.
Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking responsible breeders i just don't want to. Several reasons. First my dog is only 8 months old as of the 5 of this month why in goodness sakes would i be thinking of breeding that's like 2 or 3 yrs in the future. Second of all their dog isn't vet checked and they don't have papers on him not to mention rotten personality and not breeding quality. Plus possible that he's not full shepherd. if i am going to breed my dog i would want to get the male (buy him) and have him here so i can keep an eye on him and my female plus i don't know if i want puppies anyway i just don't know enough about breeding standards etc. plus there is the possiblitly that she wouldn't throw good pups. i mean she's not even done growing and she's got part of her tail missing, it's not a birth defect she had it froze off not to long after she was born, but there is a slim chance i was lied to. R you guys proud of me or am i just being to careful? Yes my males are fixed except laddie who is going in soon

AAAHHH, it is fun to raise a litter of puppies, give one to every family member, but not till it is two years old like you said.

You should be proud, get her photo up or maybe it is and I am missing it? I just posted my breeding male, Gino. It is very humble to know somebody is looking at your girl be it she is a baby yet, she is going to turn into quite the lady I bet?

Good luck with her and enjoy while she is a pup for they sure grow up so fast. She might chew a tennis shoe or so, but read the cute and sad poem, well not really a poem, a tear jerker for sure on my site. I found it and cried while re reading it again.

Blessings
Pat

I think you should only breed if you are solely doing it for the breed, not to make money. There are too many dogs in need of homes of all breeds to be breeding more and more dogs to find homes for while others are being put to sleep by the thousands because they can't find enough homes for them. So I think unless you are very responsible breeder and you are only breeding to better the breed than you have no business breeding.

You made a splendid choice, of course. If your bitch turns out to be breeding quality, it would an insult to her and the breed to breed her with something less than her, meaning a dog that is not purebred, not of excellent temperant, etc. And personally, IMO, if an owner of a stud has to indiviually solicit a female, there is something wrong. It is not the stud's owner who makes the decision to breed, it is the owner of the bitch. The stud owner has life easy. Let their boy play with a girl, and then go back 2 months later and say "what goregous puppies. I want one."

If and when you breed, do it for yourself and the breed, not because anyone else wants you too, and that includes your best friend, sister, cousin, whomever, that wants a pup out of your female because she is just the best dog there is. Breeding and whelping is a lot of work. You have to be ready to commit and so does your female.
