Question Red Meat ect

I know there have been some threads on this already, Ive already looked into them. I was thinking of switching Dakota to Red Meat.
Now, I was thinking not Raw but maybe Rare. With dog foods these days you can never be to sure on what your pet is eating. I also want something very healthy and natural for Dakota. I was going to buy a Top Notch Dog Food and than add something like: Fish, Liver, Red meat or Raw meat, ect to it. Basically when I think of Dog Kibble I think of Bird Seed, a dog does need some real meat in his diet, ive had my dogs on dog kibble and nothing bad has happened to them, but I want something more for Dakota.
Any Suggestions when it comes to any kind of Meat?

What do you think the benefits would be to adding: Fish, Liver, Raw meat, Red meat, to a dogs diet?

Raw.... I feed a strictly raw diet. They do get table treats some times but mostly raw. Dogs digestive system are made for a raw diet, they are designed to eat that way.

I feed mostly raw chicken, but I also will feed, ( all raw ) lamb, beef, bison, wild game, fish, and they love it. They get raw veggies pureed( they need to be puree'd so the dog can digest them ). I also supplement with brewer's yeast ( a pure natural form of vit B), cod liver oil ( when not feeding liver , only once to 3 time a month ) , Flax either milled ot flax oil in capsule( flax oil and flax have lots fo vit E so no need to give straight vit E ) . Raw bones for clacium ( they get these in the chicken necks I feed and the large leg and knuckle bones I give them ) also eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt . The list goes on and on. Our dogs are more helathier then ever.

Feeding RAW takes time, if you have enough time it is one of the best things you can do for your dog. You must do your research, becuase it needs to be done correctly to ensure you are giving your dog all the nutrients it needs. There is tons of info oin the web and many books to read.

If I can be of assistant in anyway let me know.

So is that a diet you have made and feed to your dogs everyday or a bunch of things they get, here and there. Pureed Vegetables?
To make sure hes getting everything he needs...what about a Dog Food with Store Bought Meat on top or Fish? I would like to see some meat in his diet...dont want him having birdseed all the time How can I make sure hes getting everything?

Thanks, now I know who to ask

If you want you can add meat to dry kibble, it will not harm your dog at all. Eggs , cottage cheese and yogurt are excellent for your dog and can also go ontop.

I would only give eggs maybe once or twice a week, yogurt can be given tiwce to three times a week same goes for cottage cheese. With any milk product with fat in it you need to be careful about weight gain.

If you are feeding kibble you don't really need to add veggies but dogs do love them.

It is best to pick one or the other ( raw or kibble ) but adding meat to your dogs diet along with the other things I mentioned ( don't give vitamin or oils with kibble they are already there ) should do your dog fine.

Ah ok good.
The Kibble will make it easier..but the meat shouldnt be raw?..you said I should feed kibble or raw or is that just the overall barf diet?

Thanks for telling me how often the Dairy Products should be added...at first will it upset his stomach? He has a pretty tough Digestive System, unlike my Husky but still, it could right?

Thanks!

The meat has more of what a dog needs if fed raw, cooking it kills the enzymes and some of the nutrients in it. Don't worry about it being raw it will not hurt a dog. Dog were designed to eat raw, not cooked. You can cook it a bit if you want, it just will not be as good for him.

If you are worried about the milk products, feed gradually, a little at a time. Try a tablespoon and then raise it to 2 then 3. But try not to give more then a half a cup when you are up to full amounts.

Sorry missed a question.

BARF stand for Biologically Apporiate Raw Food. Feeding straight RAW is a BARF diet.

As of right now I have time for his feeding preperations but in a week I wont.
I think the easiest would be: Kibble, Macerol Fish, and than cottage cheese and eggs. The meat is expensive and I would always have to make sure I have anough whereas the fish, I could just stock up on the cans, I may be able to do the meat, I'll have to see what my schedule will be like though.
The feeding program right now is:
Dixie, Dakota, Stormie: Kibble
Sidnie: Kibble with Rice
Buddy and Cyrus: Macerol with Kibble

I want to switch Cody over to Kibble, Macerol or red meat and than some dairy-products. The fish should be almost as good as the red meat though, right?
