Question People shampoo for dogs?

My sister has two dogs, one is a terrier mix (1 1/2 yr old) and the other is a beagle (12 weeks old). She uses her Pantene Pro V shampoo and conditioner on her dogs and she bathes them at least every 3 weeks or so, sometimes more often. I have explained to her that dogs are not people and have different needs for products than we do, but she insists it's ok? Her dog's are itching a lot and don't have fleas. I think it has to be from the frequency of baths and the type of products she is using.

What do you think? Is it ok to use people shampoo on dogs? How often do you bathe your dogs?

Boy, she couldn't have picked a harsher shampoo, I won't even use that on my own hair. It's full of alcohol. I have been known to use a mild baby shampoo on my sheltie in a pinch but I usually use an oatmeal based doggy shampoo I get through pet edge.

As far as how often I try to bath at least once a month in the summer and only when she really needs it in the winter.

Where can I find information, or something I can printout to show her how bad it is for her dogs?

I know when I first got my bully I used a baby shampoo on her thinking that since it was for a baby it can't be that bad. I was told shortly later that it isn't good for dogs either, so I can imagine what pantene would do.

The company I work for manufactures Pantene and I can assure you it's not meant for dogs, or any animals. The PH is completely incompatible (shampoo and conditioner). This is true with all human shampoos. Although I know there's some in the forum who have good luck with baby shampoos.

I'm not sure if you mean that the other way around, too (won't use anything on me that I can't use on my dogs) but....

A human's ph and a dog's ph are different. You should stick to products formulated to the correct ph for the recipient.

I tried to tell her about the ph being different for dogs and people but she didn't listen. Little sisters are a pain in the you know what!
