Faith had an umbilical hernia and I had her spayed, but I was going to anyway. There was no problem with her being bred if I wanted to breed her, so I'm not sure.

My bigger poodle, Tiara had an inguinal hernia (they are lower, in the groin area) which required surgery.... the reason you shouldn't breed them is because inguinal hernia's are genetic, so the puppies will have a good chance of having them too, also because when they are pregnant, it puts LOTS of pressure on the hernia and can cause strangulation of the bowel, which is life threatening..... even if you have it fixed, the area muscle is weakened..... have her spayed !!!!!

An Umbilical hernia (a hernia at the site of the umbilical cord) is usually caused by pulling on the cord (this is controversial) it is a pad of fat or an organ protruding through an incompletely-closed umbilical ring, this is hereditary in some breeds, a small hernia is likely to disappear when the dog gets older, one that can be pushed back in by a finger or a larger hernia needs to be operated on because if left is can cause trouble when bred from. An Inguinal hernia is when an organ or part of the abdominal contents is pushed through the inguinal canal in the groin (this is where the canal which the male testes descend) area these hernias are not common in *******, if it os present in a bitch it will very often contain one or both of the uterine horns, so a bit with this should not get pregnant unless it has been corrected.
I would surgest you do some research on your breed and if hernias are common and heredity, I hope this helps |
