my rottwieler is 9 months old,he has a wonderful temperment with humans and loves children! he has gone to training since 8 weeks old and was the most perfect, well behaved dog in the class! every one envied him because he was so obediant and passed canine good citizen with flying colours however he is becoming an adolescent now and is acting up. He is aggressive with all the unfamiliar dogs at training and wants to fight with every dog he sees! he is totally humiliating me and once even made me cry. Because I am a teenage girl, he takes advantage of me and pulls me around and gives me rope burn on my hand.thank goodness he is fine with other humans! He is not neuted yet because my father wants to a litter with him and then get him neuted. The vet also said I should wait until he is 14 months old so that the testosterome will make him big and muscular like a real male rotty. Now I am faced with a hard descision, Should I neut him now to make him calm, and not let him develope big muscles and look beautiful as well as lose out on a litter? or should I wait until hes 14 months, give him a litter but face the reality that he might become unbearably vishis? This is a side of him I dont know, Its like he becomes possesed when he see other dogs. I dont want to be around when he gets lose and kills another dog. Please help me!!! I need help from any one who owns a rottweiler and is familiar with my problem!
kind regards gabs |

Well, though it might seem true that neutering a dog at 14 months is an advantage, I think it's best to be done at 7 months, while my dog, Harrison Ford, was neutered just before we got him at age one, is pretty small for a rough collie (even though he was spayed at 12 months) and he's quite aggressive, too
but you can't help for it! They're dogs!, and boys will be boys!

Neuter him now. The sooner the better. Aggression is a learned response so the longer he does it the worse your problem will be. As for the dog to dog aggression - it requires that his training over come his instinct.
You need to get his sit/stay so perfect that a dog can come within a foot of him and he not move. I would suggest going to someone that specializes in big dog training. My female rottie was never dog aggressive but as she entered "those dreaded teenager" months, she was pinning smaller/less dominant dogs. With diligence and a firm correction system, she is now back to being wonderful. |
