Exclamation rotty lovers please help me

my male rotty is 9 months old, he is not a pedigree but his parents were registered. I am unsure if he has hip displycia but really want to breed with him. My trainer says it should be fine but he could turn mean. would having a litter with my rotty make him vishis and unbearable? and it I neut him afterwards will he turn nasty anyway or is it fine? this is my first rottweiler so I need info and alot of it!

kind regards
gabi

No, having a litter would not make your male mean and vicious.

If you think your dog has hip dysplasia do not bred him, that is a genenically transfered disease. If you breed him and he does have it, it can and will be passed on to the puppies. Hip Dysplaysia is a nasty condition where the hips detoriate to the point where the dog can no longer walk, it is painful and an a very awful thing to watch a dog go through. Most vets and breeders would recommend putting any dog down that has it, or a hip replacement ( my cousin opted for the hip replacment at a cost of 3000.00 per hip ).

If you are in doubt never bred. Also I would not recommend breeding any dog that is not a registered purebred or has not earned his champoinship for conformation as a purebred. Breeding should be to better a breed, not just because you think it would be nice to have puppies from your dog or an accident.

My advice would be to nueter your dog. You will have a better behaved male and a better adjusted dog.

I agree totally with Dobified. I have two nice male dogs with the best temperment. But I would never in a million years breed from them. There is nothing wrong with them, one is a pure bred German Coolie and the other is a mix. There is too many unwanted dogs out there that dont have any faults looking for kind and caring homes, its not necessary to breed dogs that arent purebred or have any genetic faults within them.

Ok, your other post says that he's attacking, so you need a prong collar, and here you want to breed him? IMO, not the best idea. He obviously doesn't have a great temperament to pass on, so neutering is probably your safest option.

What exactly is the reason that you would want to breed him?

You have have any doubts at all about his health or temprament, I agree that he should not be bred.

Being 'registered' doesn't mean anything. AKC will register any dog, even from puppy mills, because it gives them money. It doesn't mean at all that the parents had no genetic problem, and that your dog doesn't have them either.

Plus if your dog seems to have agressive tendencies, I would definitely get him neutered as soon as possible.

Yes it does, it means they are Purebred. If you wnat to register a dog it must be a purebred. We deal with the CKC here but I would assume they have a close relationship with the AKC.

You must always watch where you get your dog from. Puppy mills generally sell to pet stores. It is buyer beware. My dogs are bother registered and garunteed for health defects.

Always buy from a reputable breeder and so your research.

As for this Rottie, honestly it is your choice but given the history of your dog; the chance it may have hip problems; the fact it has not been shown or gained it's championship and is not registered don't breed it.

I think what she meant was that just because a dog is registered doesn't mean it's good breeding material.
