Breeding females????

I have a question??? Okay This is going to be my females first breeding...
She's 2 years old and passed all her health Cerfs, pattelas(SP) Heart, Thyroid, eyes and a blood scan..... She's a chihuahua and this is going to be hopefully her first litter.... I own the stud also and he's 3.5lbs and this bitch is 6 lbs so she's quite abit bigger than he is... She's 9 days into her season and she's flaging already but my male can't reach her unless she will lay down, which she hasent yet, when he tries to mount her she just moves away but will still come back and flag him... Maybe she's not ready yet?? Also maybe i should of looked for a bigger stud.... If she dosent take this time, i will have to look for a stud more capable of mating her and also one that passed all his health cerfs.....

Thanks...

I'm not a breeder, so I can't give you a really reliable answer; but I wouldn't go looking for a bigger stud necessarily. Maybe you can hold her for him?

you need to hold her most madien ******* wont stand still for their first mating, and also you need to hold her just incase she tries to pull away during a tie, you will also need to give him help to reach, can I ask if your male has had all the tests too? And what do you know about breeding and the care of the bitch and pups

If you males hasn't passed all of his tests, then I would look for a different male.

I agree that maiden bitch es may need assistance with a male at times.

Also, even if she is flagging and letting him mount, but then scooting away, she might still be a bit early. She may be teasing him. Give her a day or two. Every bitch is different in their own heat cycles as far as when estrus, or ovulation, begins, and if you have never tempted to breed her before, you really aren't going to know if she stands on day 10, day 15 or day 20. Good luck! Hope all works well.

Thanks for all the help.... My Stud is 6 years old and passed all his health cerfs also, He has many canadian champs in his pedigree..... I had all his health testing done when he was 2.5 years old and every year for the blood work...He's sired 2 prior litters and i waited for the right Bitch to come along..... Now hopefully this works out.... It should be interesting trying to hold her down, she has lots of energy.....

Thanks again....

If she if flagging and ready to stand there need to be littel help.
In wild dog days they managed without us and they will also.
I have never had to help a maiden bitch out if she is ready and a good stud he will do this thing and tie within minutes, time the tie and mark on a calendar date, length of tie and any troubles, I post all on my doggie calendar and then I can go back and refer to it for any complications etc.
Let a female ungaurded for a few minutes she takes off and comes back pregnant, so it is to natural and easy do not fret they will manage. No need to knee the bitch unless she is very tiney to boost her up. Sometimes in breeding the smaller ones I forget that assistance is needed to level them out to breed, then sit and wait on the tie, lol Good Luck.

With many small breeds I would consider A.I.

In this case the male is smaller than the bitch so he will most likely need help, letting a feamale alone to breed is not a good idea because if she pulls away which most females will she can seriously harm the male
