Red face

Is that not the truth, but Purina I feel is the worst of all of them followed by Hills. Vet approved, I wondered why they have their names on the bag.
There are not many fit feeds out there after I researched what does your pet really eat? SOme decent ones are: INnova, Solid Gold, Wellness, Wysong, Eagle Pack, Strive frozen or freeze dried and some others.

"So there you have it - veterinarians don't recommend this food because they are convinced it's a great product, but because they make a profit and have other personal benefits."

NOT TRUE AT ALL. Our hospital LOSES money carrying food products such as Hills, and Waltham.

"...contrary of what many people think, nutrition is not a major subject in veterinary schools, and most of the courses offered are sponsored by one of the pet food giants"

Some validity, but not entirely true. They spend enough time to understand what a dog needs in a diet to help a diagnosed dog/cat with a certain disorder. And because the food world is SUCH a personal opinion, why spend years teaching nutrition? Also, many schools use multitude of companies to help teach. However, when Hills and other companies are such profiteers and spend lots of their money researching, who else out there can you look to learn from?! Regardless of whether they are the best (according to you or whomever), regardless of their ingredients, they have researched the MOST. It's also hard to deny the percentages of presciption diets and how much they have helped along the way.

THen again, we sit here thinking we need to feed our dogs the "healthiest" stuff, etc etc. But what do most Americans put in their mouths everyday? Fast food. We're not ones to talk, maybe our dogs like the by products. (Who knows.. just making a point)

We know the difference between what is health and what is not, our dogs don't.

I still can't figure it out. Is Nutro Ultra a good food or not?

In my opinion, Ultra is on the "Okay" list. It's not my favorite, but it's acceptable and if i get a customer who doesn't want to go with Merrick, Solid Gold, or Chicken Soup, than I recomend Ultra. Although to be honest with you, I even have recomended Science Diet and Pro Plan over Kibbles and Bits or Pedigree. But that is ONLY a last resort. Once you have a person considering a better food, you have to take baby steps. At least at my store, lol. My standards are MUCH higher than 95% of my customers. Even when you explain why Pro Plan and SD are no good, they ignore you, so you have to weigh the options. They are at the least better than Dads or Come N' Get It
