Senile?

Dax is getting up there in years and I wonder if she isn't becoming slightly senile.

This morning she woke us up at 5am by howling. Not a I'm in pain, or distress kind but a "let's sing to the moon" type.

Hubby went down and she was standing in the middle of the room with nothing around to cause this.

So do you think it was a dream or is she losing it. (Dax has just turned 10 yrs young)

My sheltie growing up went senile.. she would lick random things, like walls and coffee tables. I think it all started around 11ish.

Maybe it was a ghost?

Bailey does that when she's thirsty and out of water...

She also randomly does the howling thing. As she's only 6, I don't think she's really entering her elderly stage yet...

I wouldn't worry too much about it until it starts becoming more of a consistent thing. One time really isn't definitive.

My Ginger is around 10 has become a cratchety old lady. She does not want to be bothered, but if the youngsters are out playing ball she is determined she is going out and play. She has arthritis in her knee and is not suppose to be running...so that seems to drive her nuts. She wants to prove she is better then them youngsters.

But she has proved that she can still sniff out missing balls in deep grass. (She is a beagle mix.) She doesn't even see where it went...just nose to the ground and searches. An wont quit til she has it.

Don't say that! I really do think that dogs have an extra 'sense' though, my dog will sometimes bark at a corner of the ceiling (proper barking where she snorts in between!). She usually waits until the other half goes away for the night and it is just the pair of us in the house alone - scares me silly!!!
