? for Lab owners/breeders
I was wondering if you ever heard of a pointing lab?
There was a black lab I was competeing against today. After the show we happened to start talking and she told me that he is a Pointing Lab. I never heard of this before....is it something new that they are tagging Labs with or was this just a gimmick to sell more puppies? Last edited by doglady; 08-14-2005 at 06:14 PM. |

I have heard of pointing labs, but I really do think it is more of a gimmick than anything. Labs are natural retrievers but can be taught to point. And to honor another dog's point. If you breed a lab that was taught to point with another that was taught to point, most likely you should be able to teach the pups to point, but to have a Lab that is a natural pointer, like a GSP, Weim or Visla, well I really don't think they exist.
Now, Greta points. She is from poorly bred parents that didn't hunt in anyway. But I would never consider her a pointer, just a dog that points. Well, unless I wanted to breed her (impossible, she is spayed) and then I could sell her pups as Pointing Labs and make a fortune. lol |

That's what I was wondering. I mean this owner was all proud of this Pointing Lab. Even the judge never heard of it and thought this might be a new term. What people wont do to sell puppies.
