malinios

I have fallen for the malinios! They are such awesome dogs. I really am considering getting one. Has anyone had one or know anyone who has them? I want to find out more about them from people with actual experience and I don't know anyone who has one.

I have a Tervuren... which is basically the same dog, but with longer hair...

I love her! She is such an awesome dog!

Tervurens are cute too but I love the smooth coat on the malionios. What is your tervurens name? How big is she?

Her name is Shiloh and I don't know how tall she is... but I just had her at the vet the other day to weigh her and she is 65lbs. She's pretty heavy at the moment. I haven't been exercising her lately...

Someone said she wasn't a Tervuren because she's all black, not brown with a black overlay... but if they could see her in person they would know. I've been reading up on Tervurens and Groenendaels and what I read is that the two breeds almost died out in the US around one of the World Wars, so they were bred together to bring both breeds back. So occasionaly pups are born that aren't the right color.

Here's a pic of her... I've been meaning to get the camera out and get some more pics of the dogs, but haven't had time. Hopefully I can do that soon. These pics are all pretty old, a few from Nov. 2003! That wasn't too long after I got her.
Sorry! I didn't know they would be this big! I don't know how to make them smaller...

I think she's beautiful too! This lady told me that since she was that color she couldn't be a Terv, she was a GSD. And she was too big to be a Terv. I asked how does she know how big she is? Are GSD's 65lbs at a heavy weight? I don't think so... I said she looks a little different in the pictures than she does in real life, but she wouldn't listen to me at all. Think of it kind of like a white doberman... it is still a doberman, just a wrong color.

Yeah, I get that color thing, too. People forget that in order to save a breed, we sometimes have to cross with a very similar breed. The tervuren is very true now, but that doesn't change the history of the breed. And as we all know, genetics stay with us, lol. The blue merle collie nearly died out in the early 1900's but was saved by the few who loved them. Although now, we have more health problems with them because of the race to save them.
