Funniest Training Experience
This contest is for anyone who has ever trained a dog.
During training, we often find ourselves working with a, well, stubborn dog. Sometimes, these dogs do such funny things, that we can't help but laugh. Example: Running Bailey through her weave polls, I noticed she kept missing the last pole, so I made her turn around and redo the last one. Well, she always wants to turn around and redo the last one now! The Rules: Just post one story per dog. You can't vote on your own dogs. |

My funniest training experience with Poppy - we'd been going for 6 weeks and I was very proud that she'd not peed or done a poo in the training class like most of the others had. Well that was shortlived, she did the biggest pee you've ever seen a little puppy do, it went everywhere, it even went over the edge of the mat he had in the hall for us to walk on. I just stood there and watched her do it, my eyes couldn't believe how long she carried on for or how BIG the puddle was.
It was the way she looked up at me to say "Look at me mommy, aren't I clever???" that got me. It took quite a few cloths and a mop and bucket to clean it up - the trainer kept looking at her and saying stuff like "Yes, you stinky little girl..." yeah that was my funniest training experience! |

Well, I've been doing some service dog training at the moment and decided to train my kelpie in such behaviours as a kind of test. One of the things we teach the service dogs is to go pick things up and bring it to the handler. Some of these things are specifically worded (wallet, keys etc.)
Well I was outside and wanted May to bring me my shoes, but just as I was about to say "go pick up shoes" I noticed a most awful pile of poop, and ended up saying "go pick up poop!". May plastered her ears back and kind of whimpered and looked at it like "er, do I have to?" |

My dogs name is Jack. What is the command that you give a dog when it jumps on you or another person? OFF! Well, I was at one of my friend's mother's house with Jack when he was a puppy. He attempted to jump up a few times and I kept saying "Jack, OFF! Jack OFF!" Yep, I still get laughed at for that one.

We taught King to "shake a paw" when he was just 7 months old. This cute trick was always rewarded by lots of praise and love "smart dog" we would say as we petted him.
Soon it became an apolagy. When King was a "bad dog" and scolded, he would come up to you, sit down, and put his paw out against you trying to "shake a paw" to make you happy again. This little trait of "saying sorry", was so sweet, that you couldn't stay mad at him, and soon you were shaking his paw back and telling him "good dog" again. Thus he aknowledged he was forgiven. It became a bit of a problem though, and still is to this day. A little child [a visitor] comes up to King, and for some reason kids have a tendency to tell a dog "bad boy" on as frequent an occasion as they can find. The child yells "bad dog" at King, and before my mom could say anything, King had slitherd towards the kid and put out his paw, scratching the kid in the face and nocking him over backwards. How do you explain that your dog was "only trying to say sorry", to a non-dog loving, protective mother, horrified of the vicious brute who perposly "nocks down" little children. We all had a good laugh about it after the "guest" had left, but this still happens once and a while, and its not unusual for a small child to go home with a swipe on their face, or a bloody nose. We explain to the children when they arrive "don't call King a bad dog", but u know kids, once said they have to try it out.lol! Poor King, our gentle Giant, classified as "mean to children" from a simly "sorry" |

Kirby was young when he started agility, old enough, but still young, 16 months. Full of all sorts of spunk. Kirby was always different. Made the isntructors say"I've never seen that before"
Like when Kirby jumped from the floor, PAST the mid point fold of the A-frame. "Wow, I've never seen that before" Or when he escaped under the fence fifty times in 6 months to go play. "Hm, that's never happened here before" Or instead of slowly jumping the 3 jumps in the line one by one, he jumps all three. Follows another dog into a tunnel, and comes out the other end first... There are lots of unique things about Kirby, but he's the only dog who can poop while he's running top speeds. He's so driven to the obstacles that he doesn't stop to poop in the course, he just lets them fly while he's running. So if there's poop scattered all around the course, we know who it was. And guess what, the instructors have "never seen that before" |

Well, I was such a proud mommy when I had Clifford in puppy class, he was a GREAT student, and everyone just adored the big goof ball!
We were on a short break, so I was sitting in a chair with my overgrown bundle of joy next to me. He was just so cute because he wanted to get closer and closer to me. Well he got as close as he could and PEED ON ME!!!! Me, his mom!
