I'm wondering this exact thing too! I even posted the question a few minutes earlier. My GSD never did that, so it might be the standard look for GSD's in show?

This is what I found about it:
Quote:
In terms of looks, most German show lines are very similar in structure, coat and color. The line in general has an almost “cookie cutter” appearance, with all dogs looking the same. They tend to be more substantial than the American show line dogs, with stockier builds, heavier bone and broader heads. Just as the sloped back and extreme angulation have become the stereotype for the American show line dogs, many German show line dogs have a curved or “roached” back, where the spine angles up behind the withers, peaks, and then slopes downward again towards the croup.
So I guess both are fine and it just depends on the lines. I have had 2 GSD (both from different breeders and lines) and one had a sloped back but the other didn't. Both are normal though.

There are so many many types and colorations of Shepherds out there. All mine dont have the "drastic" slope but there are lots of different kinds that do. It also has to do with breeding. Yes its confusing, not to me, since I own them, but with the whole Smooth and Rough Collie, that was simple and I was confused!! LOL

Lilly is correct the German Bred Shepherd is heavier boned, shorter nose, bulkier build, some more of the banana back for working, a stronger back than the straight Am. lines of finer bones, etc. Longer stifled legs in rear with a steep dropped croup. Notice the nice slope of the two males here. They are both ScHH3 and top Seiger show males. VA titled in confirmation.

I just got a new 8wk old puppy it is Charpe and Sheperd mix. My question is what is the personality going to be like? Anyone? Right now he is really attached to me and won't sleep well unless I am holding him. is that normail for a puppy?

There is the American Shepherd bred to trot around the show arenas. Then there is the West German or foreign bred Shepherds. They come from East n West Germany, Dutch Shepherds, Chezc Shepherds the latter are higher ball drive mostly do k-9 work in the severe biting, SchH work, West German breed is drive along with show for the beauty I like more than the dark colored one mostly blacks, black sables, u can see in their eyes the drive to bite on command.
Notice Inko's dad of blk/red West German
The black East german Shepherd black sable.

Talking

The Eastern Shepherd will not upload for some reason.
The Puppy of 8 weeks usually wants to play at this age, not yet bonding so young. He might be scared somewhat and kinda stressing, with the mix of the two you should have a nice dog if u raise it into a good adult with Positive training and not Negative.
Be firm in commands, but do not ever hit the puppy, shake its hair on the back of its neck later when teaching NO NO. I wonder if it will get any wrinkles, lol.
Try and post a photo of it in a month or so and lets see what it favors most.

We just got him yesterday so I am still learning about the breeds! I will definately be posting pictures as he gets older! Is it true the bigger the tonge on a puppy the bigger they will be?

No, they grow into the feet, legs. If large feet and long legs, big knees, etc. It is going to be a nice size dog. I breed within the Standard of the SV not going to 100 lb Shepherd for health reasons also. It keeps them within a nice size, not over growth for Hip, Elbows and Joint issues. Of course you know a gene can slip through some times we have no control over, this is why I give a 2 year warranty of replacement if it should occur.
Take a look at 4 or 5 of my total of 7 laying so peaceful together. Second to top is the Dominant male, Gino.....rest is my *******, 2 are in the kennels in heat cycle or going out of.
