Itchy skin

My little Carjack is having a bit of a skin problem...
The combo of a mild flea problem and a family memeber who is a jerk (and decided to feed her not her usual food--shes sensitive to foods--especially pedigree, which is what she was being fed behind my back), has left her with a nasty skin issue.
She's scratched and bit herself raw in parts and in others has bumps and scrabs.
She's very uncomfortable and spends alot of time scratching and biting.
I've talked at a few vets and basically they have told me to change her food ( to a vet prescribed one ), flea dip her, keep her on a flea prevention program...
And while this is good advice, i'm NOT changing her to a vet prescribed food as she gets a nice high quality food that IMO hasn't been a factor in her current skin issues.
And she is on flea prevention.

Any suggestions for a nice shampoo for sensitive skin or anything i could add her her meals that is good for skin...like flax oil or cod liver oil or brewers yeast or......

You could try using an oatmeal shampoo, putting her on a skin and coat supplement, and continue using your flea preventative. For fleas, you can also give her garlic pills, which you can buy at www.springtimeinc.com

Also, by high quality, what do you mean. Corn, wheat, and by-products are just a few things to avoid in dog food. There is another thread in here that has more information, I think started by DogtorJ. What flea products do you use? Some, such as Hartz are actually causing horrible reactions in some dogs. i'd double check that if I were you. What kind of dog do you have?

we use advantage as a flea preventitive

and her food is N-R-G...a dehydrated food, the ingrediants are....

free range buffalo, naked oats, wheat germ, cooked whole eggs, (including the shells as a calicum source), cook chicken liver, raw fresh carrots, grapefurit, winter squash, brocolli, cranberries, papaya, pasrsley and garlic, apple cider, goat milk yogart, ground flax seed, cider vinager, kelp, cold pressed safflower iol, olive oil

The food sounds very good, it's sad that your family member would give her Pedigree when she is on a good food like that. I don't use advantage myself, but I believe it is very good. Other than that, I still recommend a skin supplement, perhaps Fresh Factors from springtime Inc. and the oatmeal shampoo.

I agree the person just didn't want to make the extra two steps (thats how far it was away from him) to get the food.
The rest of the family dogs get pedigree (i know i know its not a great food--but is all my mom will buy).
Coral gets a different one as she is a tiny dog and first was on Royall cannin small breed, but after she out grew that I put her on teh dehyrdated foods, the change was too cool too!
She went from being a wired pup that would basically crash and burn to one that could relax and chill with the family or romp and play...she coat got so nice too..though she sometimes gets buffalo toots....lol...now those are stinky

Advantage is good for fleas and your food sounds like a quality food too. I wouldn't change to a vet prescribed on at this stage and would make sure that she doesn't get any human food or "bad" doggy treats. I would bath in an oatmeal shampoo specifically for dogs like this one from Prodog's site:

you can find it here http://www.prodoggroomingsupplies.com/dog_shampoo-3.htm

and I would also use an oil supplement specifically for dogs, my dog is currently on one that contains evening primrose oil.

you can try cleaning the "hot spots" with Wichhazel and then putting Gold Bond power on after. We had a Lasa who had the same trouble and the combo worked out well for her. we cleaned and powered 2 or 3 times a day.

good luck
