need help

ok most of you know that i take in strays or unwanted dogs right? I am not a rescue i do it because i have the room and want to help. I received an email from a couple people that are wanting curly, he's the white basset hound mix. I love this dog but i took him in to find him a home of his own so he didn't wind up for months in a kennel or worse yet being put to sleep. I never had any intention of keeping him, my goal was his very own home with maybe one other dog to play with and lots of room to run maybe even a hunter that would give him a job so that he could work off some energy. I guess since he's been here for so long that i without knowing it I grew attached. I need encouragement that I am doing the right thing by not keeping him.If i keep growing attached to every stray i take in i won't be able to provide a home for others. Am i horrible for finding him a home since he thinks this is his home? I mean i have every intention of screening the possible adoptive family. with that in mind give me some ideas as to what to ask these people

If these people want him and will provide him with a good home, you should let him go. Here are the reasons you already know;

1. It makes room in your home if another needy dog comes along
2. It means that your pocket book might get a little bit of a break
3. It means good word of mouth advertising when people ask them where they got him and maybe more homes for more dogs.
4. There is a time when the babies must leave the nest. These people without the burden of so many dogs may have the financial resources to care for a aging dog.

Do you need more? Go get the jumbo size of kleenex and have a goood cry then let them take him

you should check out some rescue group websites - most of them have adoption applications that have all sorts of questions that potential adopters must answer. you can steal what you like from them and make up your own set of questions.

I know how you feel! I have grown attached to this little Britany Spaniel I have taken in. I have the same situation as you, if I keep her I wont have the ability to try to help the next one in need.
I think if you have someone who will provide him a wonderful home, let him go. Hold out for that perfect home for him, but once you find it, say good bye.
