Unhappy nevermind worrying about the people you visit

i did a home visit last night that went great. the people were very nice, and Faith and one of their dogs had a blast running around and playing.

they have a very large, beautiful, fenced in yard (fence even goes across their driveway) and use their 2 car garage as a large "dog house" for their pups (they currently have 3). each of the pups has their own futon/bed to sleep on, and it has a pellet stove to keep it warm in the winter. they have a doggie door so they can relieve themselves or run around outside anytime they want.

they are trying to adopt 2 puppies, a brother and sister, who need to go together.

i found out this morning that it's likely that they won't let them adopt the pups because of them living in the garage instead of the house.

i am SO sad about this. they are great pet owners and spend time outside with their animals before and after work each day. i now feel so bad for those puppies that would have had a great home.

Wow that's horrible. Why does it matter if the dogs are in the garage if they each have their own place to sleep, can go out when they need to, have a fenced in yard, and get LOTS of attention? That's just crazy. I hope everything works out for the pups!

I would think the dogs would feel very isolated if not left in the house some each day. I picture a garage dark, low on fresh air and generally unappealing, but this one may be different.

Do the cars park in the garage? What about potential antifreeze spills, or other garage "stuff" like insectides, cleaners, paint thinner, etc?

they don't park the cars in it, and i didn't see anything like what you're talking about, although i can't honestly say i checked every nook and cranny of the garage.

it's a nice size 2 car garage that has some windows - not low or dark. plus, the doggie door gives them access to the yard anytime they like. they are not crated or chained in the garage. and, there would be 5 dogs, i'm not sure they would feel isolated since they are together.

I think shelters would prefer their dogs to go to a homy environment. That is, access to recieve human contact at all times.

hmmm how could you not see your dogs everyday, Moo?

From what you have said it sounds great. Fenced in yard, access to run around whenever they want and a nice shelter for them, they sound spoiled and happy.

Dogs should live in the house, not in the garage. Some people put their dogs in the basement all day. Not good. Your dogs should be where you are, otherwise, let someone else have them who will raise and keep them as part of their family. If you're going to keep your dog(s) is the garage, why do you have them at all?

So because my dogs arent inside dogs and yard dogs I should get rid of them because im not smart anough to care for them? Nice opnion.

Think as this garage as a OVER SIZED dog kennel...except the dogs CAN get out when they want to through the doggie door.

I stand by my opinion - Dogs should live in the house with their owners. Who said anything about being smart or not? Dogs are social animals. This is simply MY opinion. I don't think dogs should live out the majority of their life outdoors, in the basement or in an over-sized kennel/garage (or in the house alone all the time for that matter). I suppose if you have a large breeding business, you may have to keep them in kennels quite a bit. But, even the breeder where I got Cali from had her breeding stock and pups in the house a lot.

It doesnt matter where the dog lives as Long as you are taking care of your dog and seeing to his every needs.

You also said that if your dogs dont live inside give them to someone who will raise them and take them in as part of the family. So are you saying that I dont raise my dogs and dont consider them part of the family?
