Feeding question...when to stop puppy food

Hello! i have a 1 1/2 year old pomapoo, and a 1 year old chihuahua recently i read somewhere that if you keep feeding puppy food when you are not suppose to, its bad! so when should you stop feeding puppy food to a pom X poodle, and a chihuhua (if breed matter) Thanks!

You should stop at a year old or sooner. Puppy food tends to be higher in fat and protiens. In large breeds it can be dangerous.

I don't feed commerical anymore but when I did I stopped puppy food at 9-12 months old.

Depends on the growth of your dog. One year is a good guide though. Really small breeds are done growing earlier though, so you could probably trim a couple months off that and say 8 months or so.

With the medium size dogs I have Shepherds, from 7 months to one year, one must watch a quick weight gain or rapid growth. If this happend as even 5 months jump to adult. We can grow them right outta their hips on purpose feeding too much protein in puppy brands.
Most reach size at one year and can go on to a good adult food. Keeping them wormed and flea free, they will do fine then.

Small breeds mature quicker and are usually fully grown by 1, a larger breed takes longer and can be switched to a junior feed, as your dogs are small i would stop now, gradually change them on to a adult diet

Border Collie puppy

Are feeding recommendations different for VERY active puppies? My sister has a border collie pup that will be a year old in November. This dog is HIGHLY active- will play frisbee until she is forced to stop so she doesn't over heat! Wouldn't a pup this active benefit from the extra fats and protein in a puppy food even after a year? She definately doesn't have any problem with weight- or should my sister switch her to a high performance food at a year old?

I believe for smaller breeds its a year and larger breeds 2...but my pups really didn't prefer the puppy chow..lol..They liked the adult food and being I leave food out 24/7 and I have 4 dogs I would give just the pups canned puppy food too...That way they still could eat with the bigger dogs and still got their puppy food....

A Preformance food would be the way to go...

But Actually, my dog is highly active, very energetic, bouncing the walls, ready to hike, run swim at ANY hour... and for this reason, I had half of his diet switched to a low energy food.

I have an 8 month-old Pom and feed her Nutro Ultra. I was told by the Nutro Rep to keep her on this until she is one. I fed her 3 times a day until she was 6 months old, now twice a day.
