Found Interesting?

The issue of vaccine reactions (Vaccine Mediated Response) is of serious concern for many people in purebreed dogs and particularly Great Dane breeders/owners. Because so many people use my website for nutritional information, I tend to get an over abundance of emails from owners whose dogs have suffered irreversible damage or loss of life due to vaccine reactions I have tried to develop a schedule for my puppy buyers, with the blessing of my veterinarian.

Here is what we do, but discuss it with your vet. I will have examples of vaccine reactions at this website.

We do NOT give these vaccines:

Lepto
Corona
Lyme
Giardia
If you are in an area of the country with a big Lyme disease problem, do NOT to combine the Lyme vaccine with any other vaccines

I do not give a rabies at the same time as any other shots and preferably 6 months or later. Realize giving the rabies at 6 months this is breaking the law in some states, so discuss this with your vet. You have to weigh the state requirement vs the health of your puppy.

Far to many Vets are giving rabies too early (9 - 16 weeks) and it is causing severe immune problems in this puppies. The reaction mimics that of HOD symptoms.

swollen achy joints
high fever
lethargy
off feed
crying in pain
Many puppies are misdiagnosed as HOD puppies, when in fact they are having a vaccine responses. This develops into an auto-immune disease over a few weeks and there is NOTHING, to my knowledge, that can save them. While vets grasp at straws, thinking they are treating HOD symptoms, the dog is unresponsive to all traditional treatment for HOD (steroids, change of diet) and they become more and more disfigured. Euthanasia is the only recourse.

PREVENTION from vaccine mediated responses is the only chance we have from this happening. I have included the program we have used for years and had great success with it for our puppies/dogs.

YOU and the vet have to make the ultimate decision, but remember this is such a big problem in the breed that the Great Dane Club of American is helping to fund Vaccine Reaction research at Purdue University. This research is in the 7 year of a 8 year study. So problem of vaccine reactions is not to be taken lightly. Discuss this with your vet and have him contact Dr. Harm HoganEsch or Dr.Glickman at Purdue about appropriate vaccine protocols for the giant breeds.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blackwatch Puppy Vaccine Schedule
We do vaccinate our dogs and we purchase vaccines from the vet.

6 weeks - Parvo

8 weeks - DA2 PP - (Distemper, Adenovirus (Hepatitis) Parainfluenza and Parvo
9 weeks - Bordetella - we do not give Bordetella (nasal) at the same time - we administer it at home a week later.

11weeks -DA2 PP - (Distemper, Adenovirus (Hepatitis)Parainfluenza and Parvo
12weeks - Bordetella - we do not give Bordetella (nasal) at the same time - we administer it at home a week later.

15 weeks - DA2 PP - (Distemper, Adenovirus (Hepatitis) Parainfluenza and Parvo
16 weeks - Bordetella - we do not give Bordetella (nasal) at the same time - we administer it at home a week later.

6 months mimimum - but I end up giving it older - Rabies

I would Never allow a Rabies at the same time as the other shots, and this will often mean a battle with the vet. In many states the law states it must be done at 12 weeks, so the decision is between you and your vet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADULTS
Puppies under a year of age we follow the above schedule. All I can do is tell you what we do, but I am not recommending you do the same.

YOU have to make that decision along with your vets recommendation.

Rabies - a rabies vaccination is not given for another 3 years past the one I give at around 8- 12 months, making them about 4 years old, so the second rabies given is another 3 year shot...that makes the Dane 7 years old by the time it is due again and I will NOT give innoculations to a dog past 5 yrs old. So we are talking 2 rabies in a life time of a dane.

All Other Shots (listed above) - my dogs get one set of boosters at (3-4 years of age) a few months before they are due to be bred, IF they are used for breeding. I give NOTHING after that for the life of the dog. If a dog is going to be boarded at a kennel I do suggest a bordetella nasal innoculation.

All multivalent vaccines, when given together are compromising the immune system on your dog.

Blackwatch Recommendations for Vaccine Response Prevention:
Vaccine reactions or vaccine mediated responses are nothing new in dogs. Vaccine manufacturer's refuse to acknowledge there is a problem with we are losing dogs daily to adverse reactions.

Over the past few years I have come to learn how far reaching this problem is in other breeds as well as my own. This regime is what I recommend to my puppy buyers and individuals who contact me for advise. The combination of these two things give us a much better chance of avoiding vaccine reactions, nothing is a guarantee, but this is a step in the right direction. Based on the Purdue Vaccine Research, the carrier/preservative in vaccines is recognized by the body as a toxin and therefore, Vitamin C and Nzymes act to detoxify these toxins and help prevent a reaction. We start our puppies on this routine at weaning (4weeks) so they prepared when we start to vaccinate.

These two products together work synergistically to help prevent vaccine response.

Nzymes - an dietary enzyme with powerful antioxidant properties
(877-816-6500) website: www.nzymes.com
Vitamin C
250mg of Vitamin C for puppies 8 wks - 10 wks daily
500mg of Vitamin C for puppies 10 wks - 12 wks daily
1000 mg of Vitamin C for puppies 12 wks - adults.
If you use Daily Greens Plus, it has adequate amounts of vitamin C in it.

Again, there is no guarantee, but hopefully this will help prevent vaccine reactions.
I know over vaccinating is causing reactions in especially puppies for many of my customers experienced this putting their pups into siezure to go back for a benedryl shot. I feel too much of a good thing these days is causing too many problems in our pets, cancers, tumore, growths on spines, seizures, brain tumors, intestional cancers, and on and on and on. I know for most my people wanting puppies put down their pets because of cancers or poor breeding in the American lines.
