HELP..My puppy is coughing!

Hey everyone
I got a new puppy today, a yorkshire terrier from a reliable breeder with champion healthy dogs. He is 12 weeks old and ever since about an hour after he came home he's been coughing. It sounds like a pretty wet cough, and it almost sounds like hes spitting something up sometimes. He is very energetic and still very playful *though now hes sleeping because he's been playing all day* He doesnt seem TOO affected, we are just worried about him because it's his first day home!

PLEASE HELP MEE!!
THANK YOU!!

Well, first off, I would recommend calling a vet. If you can't get a hold of one because it's too late and they are all closed, look in your phone book and call your local emergency vet. They only charge you if you have to come in, and they don't mind helping aviod a bigger problem later. They can give you advice, and tell you whether you should come in or not. With a small puppy like that, it doesn't take long for something to bring them down. Esp. a young puppy. They haven't developed a good immune system just yet and need to be kept separate from all other dogs. If you have another dog that you know is 100% vaccinated amd not sick, then it's okay, but if you are not sure whether another dog is 100% vaccinated, then don't let the puppy near them.

Call a vet. It might be nothing, but with a dog that small and young, don't take chances.

Get it to a vet ASAP. It could have something lodged in the trachea, throat, take a flash light and look down deep. If u see anything try and reach it with tweezors.
Surely the breeder got shots for the pups before leaving, better give them a call in case u loose it for a replacement. This is terrible. Breeders should at six weeks or so get them vetted good, wormed and first shots. GIve them a call for peace of mind, then it might of swolled something, tell them what is going on.

Could also be kennel cough. I'd call the vet and see what they recommend.

I gave her a bunch of info on kennel cough on the horse forums. She is taken it to the vet in the morning. From what she described to me it sounds like kennel cough and I work at an animal shelter where we have alot of that.
