clipped nail too short.

i cut one of sweeney's nails, and it is bleeding. i only took about 1/16 of an inch off and its really bleeding. his toe-nails are between 1/4 and 1/2 inch long, and i believe my groomer has not been cutting them when she's been grooming him. from my understanding the vein only grows close to the end if you don't trim regularly and he was last in on august 1st, i can't see how they grew that long in a month. i'm calling the vet to do the rest. then im going to ask the groomer why she hasn't been cutting his nails.

whats a quick home remedy to stop the bleeding? he's in his crate fuming at me right now. i know styptic(sp) powder is the best, but i dont have any.

Do you have one of those sticks for shaving cuts? It's available as a powder too. Nails seem to bleed alot for no reason. Flour will work in a pinch.

It's likely already stopped.

Don't wash it for an hour or you'll start the bleeding again. Just use a damp paper towel to get the worst of it off

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It should seal up within a short time. Wild dogs break off nails all the time without ill effects. If you notice excessive licking or chewing on them in the next day or two have a closer look.

I heard take a soap bar and rub it on the nail and the soap will come off and fill the hole.

Corn starch is pretty much the same as what the sticks are made of. I used it once---works really well.

wrinkly is on a distinguished road
It will stop bleeding by itself, treat yourself to a rechargeable dremmel, they have a rust coloured sand paper type of attachment that whizzes around and you can stop short of them bleeding, you see a kind of horse shoe shape appearing, i couldnt be without mine.

Oh My you have to watch cutting the Quick for bleeding can be hard to stop.
Having birds, I keep Quick stop, it stops birds nails immediately. It is like a powder of sorts, I just looked it has corn starch in it among some other things, approved by vets for dog, birds cats. Quick Blood Stopper. I got it at the Pet Shop I worked for back in 1998, so u see how long I have had this 10 gr bottle of.? It is Syptic Powder External use only
