She shouldnt be walked too much let her set the distance, has she had her health checks while she was pregnant? Yes a clear sticky discharge is normal as long as it doesnt become coloured white is ok but anything else is a warning, have you read up on what to do at the birth and do you have her whelping box ready?

Good luck with the rest of her pregnancy and for the birth etc.

I can't answer your question with a right answer as some dogs will cry and yelp while giving birth and others won't at all! I think it depends a lot on personality, pain tolerance etc.

I have a Bichon Frise who has had 2 litters and she didn't cry while giving birth either time. She did cry a little bit while she was in heavy labour as she'd been awake all night and was utterly exhausted but that was about it, while she was giving birth she was very tired and had hardly any energy left but focused on getting them out and as soon as they were here, she was happy as could be!

I have also been to births where the dog will cry and yelp loudly during the whole process, but they all stopped as soon as the pups had arrived!

At 53 days you should have a good week to get everything else ready so you have plenty of time really especially seeing as you sound quite prepared.

Are you feeding Emmie a high quality puppy food? Are you giving her smaller, more frequent meals now?

It is normal for them to be uncomfortable and tired out. And this late in the pregnancy you should reduce her exercise right down.

It is also normal for her to not be very interested in the whelping box at the moment and as long as you just focus on getting her used to it then it should be fine.

Are you taking her temp twice a day now? When that drops and her appetite decreases it can indicate the babies are about to arrive within 24 hours but at the same time that isn't an absolute way to tell and her temp etc could stay the same and yet she could be in labour so look out for the other signs too! Do you have everything else prepared?

Like I said before good luck and if you have any other questions we are more than happy to answer them.

Take her temp, if it is 102 or 101, when it drops to 99 or 98 she is within 24 hours of whelp. I got an electric shedder and I put shredded papers in the whelp box and remove soiled one that happen to replace them immediately.
Have a book to mark time, weigh each pup, sex of it and ribbon the neck with color. Be sure each pup arriving that u rub it hard the more it cries the stronger its lungs get. Giving it a great chance to be able to suckle milk and survive. Keeping newborns warm is highly important. No drafts, this is why a whelp box is necessary, since I know my ******* I put them in when they go into labor and they like to be in them. Before hand they are not ready and they do need exercise, it brings on labor. If u go more than two hours between a pup, get her up and walk her on another one. Do not just let her lay and do nothng as time passes. Some go to sleep which they do need rest in between.
For a quick pick up during whelping, whip an egg yolk and tbsp sugar. No other foods, but keep water handy for her. Make sure all are eating well before leaving them. TO make sure she is done, u can fill in the birth canal any pups left. U do have to kinda learn the feeling process. We messed up one a litter and thought at 9 she was done at 3 a.m., she had one at ten thirty dead. Toooo long in birth canal. We were exhausted also.
Break the sac on each one and get an ear shringe, blue in color at wal mart, suck out the fluids, just kinda force open the mouth and get the fluids out and then rub some more with clean dry towels. When they squeal real good, put them on mommy. Job well done when its over and a long process.
This is a german shepherd pup of two days or so.
