Thumbs down Runny monster.... again

I tried giving tasha treats to train her. but her stomach is so sensetive to anything else besides her dog food and plain yogurt (in small amounts).
i bought her some treats. gave her like 4 pieces. (they were about the size of a quarter. but thick.) and today. shes got the runs. so. do any of you know of any treats i can give her for training that arent so rough on the stomach. or will she just have to get used to the treats and just let things run their course? whenever i give her something besides her regular food her poop gets runny and smells a billion times worse than it usually does. i thought maybe it was the food i was giving her (besides the regular food) but i realized today its any change in food that i give her. any help or suggestions would be appreciated. ive tried the whole give her her meals one piece at a time as treats. but i guess its not yummy enough to hold her attention. or she just knows shes gonna get it anyway lol

p.s. this is what i get for commenting in another thread i made about how shes been doing better in poop progress than pee in the potty training. lol

blacklabby is on a distinguished road
You could try giving her pieces of carrots or sliced apple. Are you giving her soft treats or hard ones? I only ask because sometimes the soft treats are a little greasy which could cause stomach problems. Oh, or how about just putting a dab of peanut butter on her normal food, just to change it up a bit?

what kind of treats are you giving her? maybe you could isolate an ingredient and try something w/out that ingredient.

Yeah, what treats are you giving her now?

I find that dry baked treats are better than semi-moist for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Carrots are good as well. Have you tried cheese?

However, training bits should be small. Maybe it's just my preference, but when I train, I use tiny bits, just to give a taste and keep moving. Like a 1-inch square semi-moist piece, I would cut into 9 tiny pieces and give a couple per reward. So at the end of the day, he hasn't eaten many, he can still fill up on dinner, and won't be fat. lol

Check and see what her normal food is based with. Chicken, beef, lamb, fish etc...and make sure her rewards are the same. I also think her treats are too bid. Mara gets very small pieces for reward and like Moo said-- it keeps her wanting more. (small treat then move on to the next command or give a big hug for the rest of the reward.)

I suggest carrots or hard treats of some kind because the hard treats don't upset their stomachs like soft treats do. Or try like little bits of hot dog or something so she's gettin a reward for doin what she's asked but won't get huge from eating too much. A little bit should be enough

For Mike, i break treats up into tiny bits. I ready one thing on training dogs where they recommended pea sized bits of their favorite treats to train them. Said they enjoyed and would keep wanting the same ones and they would work just as well.

So I give Mike very small treats--mainly because I like to give him more and I can do that without giving too much by making them small. I put out his favorites for the day in small plastic container so I won't give him too many.

There are IVD treats from the vet that are vegetarian. Also ones that for allergy or sensitive stomach dogs. Look into those.
