Hair Loss... Oh, no!

Lol. My Akane must be getting old! Lol, just kidding. But really, shes started loosing hair on and around her tail. My mom said it might be fleas. But I don't see any on her and she has a flea collar and gets treated for them. What do ya'll think? And how do I get it to grow back? She looks kinda funny.

Well, for one thing, flea collars can cause upper respiratory problems because of the chemicals. I know a person whose yorkie died because of this. What are you using to treat her for fleas? Not all flea meds are created equal. It could also be mange, either demodectic or sarcoptic. The demodex (see thread) like to hang out near the face, feet, and tail. What kind of food is she eating? She may need some omega 3 in her diet.
I know in ferrets adrenaline disease causes hair on the tail to thin. No idea if dogs can get something similar. Your best bet is to do some research, answer the above questions and call a vet.

Yeah, I know about the flea collars. We can't use them on our little dog, she has a reaction to them. Actully, not that you mention it I think its the Omega 3 thing. When PJ was younger he was loosing hair... And we bought him little medicine capsels with Omega 3 in it. Also gave him a little butter. I'll call our vet, he's the one who diognosed PJ. They get fed 3 diff. types of food... But I don't know the content in them. We buy wal-mart brand dog food. I'll also ask about the mange... But I don't think thats what it is... It might just be a spot she rubbed off. Its a small ring around her tail, and one on her back near her tail. For fleas we use.. uhh.. brain freez. One of the major brands that you put on their shoulder blades...
