Lithotrypsy

anyone on here had this procedure done to their dog? Our little girl
was supposed to have it done today, to dissolve a big kidney stone, but
the machine is down. She only has one kidney. We are concerned about
the risk, but it seems safer than surgery, or not doing anything at all.
in the meantime, our other little guy refuses to eat. I try to give him food inthe morning, and all he does is stare at me. He got some nutrical, and ate an egg. He eats his bones, but we can't get him to consistently eat his Innova or Pedigree.

As a human, ME I have had this done numerous time with cronic stones. It is electric charges banging on my back sitting in warm water to cusion the banging some.
That is what breaks up the stones if too large to pass, yes better than surgery I had that done to and almost died. On dogs I do not know how they would do this, but my guess same way for it is special machines in hospitals to do this. It is safe, just scarey. It breaks up the stones so u can pass them as particals. Good luck.

Sound waves are used to shatter the calculi .There may be a bit of discomfort when the fragments are passed in the urine. If the calculi are large, the number of sessions goes up and this may cause a bit of bruising in the kidney .
