hello fellow connecticut person.

do you mean you want to adopt a basset hound? or that you have one you know of that needs a home because of katrina?

I would start with petfinder. I think they are trying to keep up to date with info and pictures.

it's actually my doggie's name - i got her from a rescue and i think they named her very appropriately.

as for your request, dobermom is right - start with petfinder.com, or try to hook up with the other thread in this forum about a bassett that needs adopting, even though it's not because of katrina.

Right on Faith, I will def.check with Petfinder, I Due know I can adpot probaly local too, but I do have 2 other Hounds and was looking realy to help out down south! Its more of the fact that they are really in bad shape down there in LA, MS, area and they really will have there hands full in the next week or so if not right now. Theres got to be a lot of dogs with no home! With Katrina hitting the way it did in must be way overwellming to them all!!!

I have a basset hound I am trying to find a home for she is not from the hurricane but I have been trying to find a home for since before the hurricane....

BUT if you look up in google basset hound rescue there is a rescue in alabama that is taking in basset hound refugees. If you would like an email for the rescue let me know. I can get you in contact with her

I understand that ones they can't find owners for are being sent to some Humane Societies so you might want to check if any in your area are doing so.

If so, any dog you adopt would leave more room for them so I wouldn't worry too much about whether the particular one came from there.

I loved the story about the little boy who was so upset when he wasn't allowed to take his dog. Turned out it was in one of the groups of saved ones and they were reunited.

It's a really tragic situation.
