oral cancer?

Hi, i have a 6 year old golden retriever and a couple of months ago noticed he had a swelling around one of his teeth, afew days before he had been chewing a bone so thought it was due to that. As the time went on the swelling did not dissapear so i took him to the vet and he advised me to have a biopsy done as soon as possible, he thinks it might be cancer, has anybodys pet had similar to my dog and what was the outcome, i dont really want to put him through an operation and i think i am really scared about what the result will be, any advice please would be great.

Sorry, I haven't been through anything like that but your vet is the best one to advise you. Other members might be able to shed some light, I'm not sure.

Hugs to you and your dog, I hope everything turns out to be OK for you both. Keep us informed.

I don't think the biopsy would be that big of a deal. I understand you're afraid of the result, but there's only one thing worse than your dog having oral cancer. And, that's him having it go undiagnosed when it could be treated.

Walk through your fear and get him to a vet. It might be something not even cancer related.

Good luck.

If that is what the vet thinks have it done.

Is it just a swelling ? Or does it look like a growth ? Can you post pics ?

Just a swelling might just be something stuck in his gums or his tooth is abcessing.
