The vet is worried

I took max in for a weight check today, I was worried he was thin.. Weight was fine 70 lbs! But the vert does not like the muscal tone in his back hips and does not like the way Max is standing, I dont wanna jump the gun and staert filping out just yet. They will x-ray him next month and I will know more then.

If your vet is concerned why wait a month. You can have a 10 week old pup xrayed for OFA for $25.00 to rate the xray what it is at that time. It cannot be certified till two years with a stamp from them. But, at least you will know now. I would not wait.!
Also, many top dogs with A hips n elbows can sliip a gene through on a puppy with HD. Nothing is for sure. Also, HD is not always a genetic thing, it can be brought on with too much weight, too fast of growth, jumping up and down and off tail gates, running on hard surfaces, etc. So, remember all the things done and when it is xrayed and God Forbid HD, try and think things u might of done wrong before u pounch the breeder. Most times it is genetic, do not know the percent of not being it is very low, but alot of people like fat dogs, very unhealthy on growing pups to two years old.
I keep mine lean, attached is Gino doing his morning stretch, he is long lean and all muscle. A normal hips.

Definitely check him out again in a little while- Max is in that gangly stage, so it is hard to tell anything just yet

ShepLovr- don't even waste the money on OFA. You cannot OFA certify a dog, or get final results until 2 yrs of age. I think the plan to wait a month is fine.. things do change in this time frame. If you want to spend the money on the OFA for Max, I'd wait. But a radiologist or even just a plain old vet can look at those radiographs and tell you the same thing. OFA is really for only breeding purposes, or complete confidence in what grade the hips are.

Keep us updated.

Yes, I do sincerely hope that nothing is wrong with our Maxie! We've all known him fro so long now! Can't you get a photo on here, and maybe get someone like GJ or Dax or someone to look at it? It might just be like moo said, the gangly stage

My opinion is similar to Shep's- if the Vet suspects something, the sooner you know the better. If in fact it is HD and you opt to have surgery to correct the problem the sooner the better. Been there done that, wish I had had Kaos x-rayed (although not OFA) as soon I thought there could be a problem. She had the surgery on her left hip at 11 months and on her right hip just after 13 months. She did well, but would have done better if it was done when she was younger.

Murphy, didn't show HD signs until she was older. If I had known she had problems I would have been a lot more careful with some of the things she did i.e. catch the frisbee 4 feet in the air.

Having a diagnosis will bring you peace of mind if there is nothing wrong.

I agree. If your vet was overly concerned, they wouldn't be waiting a month! And if they are... then I'd find a new vet!!

And where are the pictures of Max from his visit with his brother? Did I miss just miss them?
