Sam lost power in his back leg

Yesterday, Sam was with me at a horseback riding event. He was tied to the bleachers where he would be in the action, but safe. Everyonce in a while, he gets a bit tangled up, but someone's always there to free him, if he needs it. Usually he untangles himself. Please, no lectures about that.

There had been some wasp/bee sightings on part of the bleachers, the part where Sam wasn't tied, and where no one was sitting (obviously). While I was standing with him, he took about three steps and then yelped in pain, held up his back leg, tried to step, and then collapsed when his back leg wouldn't work. After about 3 seconds, I called him to me, and he got up and tenativly walked to me, putting full weight on the leg without issue.

There was no heat or swelling in the leg. No pain when I touched it. No issues at all after that.

Could he have been stung by something and recovered that quickly? Or might it have been something else? If so, any ideas?

Kelly

Bleachers- Could be anything. My first thought was that he stepped on something sharp- glass, plastic, rock... Anything really.

No pain at any particular joint, no swelling... Did you examine the pads? Is he walking okay now?

If he recovered that quickly it is likely nothing serious. A insect or sharp stone could be the problem. Moo brings up a good point to check the paws for damage.

Ariel yelped stepping on a pine needle while out camping. The big scary dog acted like it was a a major wound. The pine needle just poked her between the toes. The german judge gave her a 10 for acting.

Yup, checked the pad, no obvious damage, and he's walking/running/playing just fine now.

Ok, he's fine. I'll just watch him next time.

if he was just laying around hanging out his legs might have fallen asleep and when he got up it startled him. keep an eye out though it could also be the beging of a pinched nerve in his lower back.
