Tank had ticks!

So I was rubbing Tank down and felt a bump. I looked and it was a tick! It had been there a couple days at least. I started looking more and he had a total of six ticks! poor baby! I am an outdoorsperson and have had a tick or two on me so i know what to do for people. Is it the same for a dog?

I made sure to remove the entire tick and to clean the area thoroughly after. I also gave him a flea/tick dip. He is clean as a whislte now, thank goodness. The lady from the rescue had just bathed him yesterday morning! I don't know how you could have missed them if you were rubbing shampoo on him.

Ok, I feel better now that I have vented. I would just think that a rescue who makes you fill out an application asking the most mundane questions would be more thorough in their care of a puppy.

Bernice give him garlic or go to springtimeinc, com and get Bug Off and that is all I use, I have NEVER seen a tick in my life honest i have not.
Garlic works for ticks nor fleas will not feed on it and also read on my site about apple cider vinegar, not certain how that works have not read it all but takes care of fleas n ticks, took a taste and about gagged to death on it might kill anything, lol. Read and see what I found it good for and also garlic is all I use and my pups born never have a flea problem either, I amaze my vet with no worms nor fleas on pups. I take great care of my huge investment, lol.

Poor Tank, if I were you I would be ringing the place up and tell them what happened and tell them what you think about them. I think thats bad for a rescue to adopt a dog out and not have it checked thoroughly.

I e-mailed the lady at the rescue. When I went to pick him up she was very hollier than thou. She saw my tatoos and assumed I was an idiot, i think. She was very apologetic, but I agree. If you are so concerned about where a dog is going and how it will be cared for, I would think you would also give the dog the best care. Ticks are also sneaky little devils (I'll give her that much), I know being the victim once or twice! lol Oh well, he is now in a place where he will be cared for better than most people care for themselves.

Just goes to show that you better double check everything about a new pup!
Thanks shep for the garlic advice. Lord knows I have plenty of that around, being the garlic lover I am. lol

I already removed them and cleaned the areas thoroughly. I have had ticks before on me and family several times. (the price I pay for love of the outdoors) i called my vet he said he should be fine until his appt on thur as long as i removed the heads with the bodies. (i made sure to do that) It didn't even affect him a bit, he fell asleep while i was removing/checking for ticks. We go to the vet for a checkup on thur just to double check though.

Poor guy! Glad you found it right and took care of it right away. I never saw a tick before. I went to a wetland for a school project and I thought a weird spider was on me. It wasn't easy to kill, then I figured out it wasn't a spider.

Mara had a tick a couple days before I brought her home. The breeders had done just what you did. She never had any problems.
