Continued Urinary Tract Problem;

So we lived through the 2 and a half weeks of S/O, and Kirby went back for a follow-up urinalysis.

The vet said they still see struvite traces and want to put him back on the stuff for two months. TWO MONTHS. Apart from not being incredibly keen on buying some 30 or so cans of the stuff, I hate it. I hate the way it smells, I hate the ingedients, I hate preparing it and he hates eating it. And it makes him gain weight. He gained 2 lbs, that's more than 10% of his body weight from eating it for two weeks!

Do you guys know any, or reccomend any alternatives? I don't want to go back to the Royal Canin.

I read something about DL Methionine (chemical) or L Methionine (natural), know anything about those?

Since I'm doing some vigorous research, I have another question as well... Since he is developing Struvite Crystals, he has an acidity too low from his previous infection (Oxalate=acidity too high, I read). Is eating a lot of vegetables contributing to the problem (crystals not dissolving), since they are supposedly alkalizing foods?

Use the holectic methods I post on my site of normal things we use daily for things, found them to work on dogs and us. I am using apple cider vinegar for my bladder problems and feel much better, none of my dogs are ill Thank God but read what I post and then some and u will find all the meds vets give are useless and non exhistant but to cause many other problems as well. Try to go natural in remedies for a dogs problems do not follow a vet advise and buy their junk I know a girl in fact a certified vet teck that can opeate and neuter a male, needs assistance on a female and she tells me alot of things good natrually she told me vets are fakes, they do not know what good breeders know, she has four of my adults dogs in a home with two cats which my dogs hated cats they adapted well. She is good and advises me well on things I need to know that work. she is so good she sould of been a vet, better than some about here.

Hey Moo what were u doing on the horse forum????????/ lol

I'm still weighing my options. Evenually will decide on something.

I poured about 150 ml of warm water over his dinner, w/ a table spoon of peanut butter... to increase the water intake, then gave him a couple tbsp of yoghourt after dinner.

My dogs are on S/O and the vet told me not to give them anything else - nothing. S/O has worked for my guys. One of my Poodles is also on Methioform (sp?) which we have compounded in a beef broth by a pharmacy. I give it to him in an oral syringe nightly.

Moo.. Struvites are actually phosphates not oxalates.. so the question about that doesn't make a difference -- to my knowledge. You could ask the vet to double check.

I know nobody likes Hills.. but there are other prescription brand type of diets. Have you looked into ANY of those? Or like any of them?

I disagree a lot. Legally a veterinary technician is not allowed to perform any neuters or spays (feline or canine) -- it's against the law. Regardless of whether we are capable or not, we are not a doctor. I think anybody in this world can be "fake" as you say.. but to go and judge and blanket that all vets don't know what they are talking about, isn't just. I don't see a DVM after your name or 8 yrs of college education and then years of experience? I find it very rude to criticize vets like that and disrespect them. You tell me if home treating your animals for their entire life without a phone call to the vet, or someone education, works.. I doubt it. You can't deny the wealth of information they have.
