Time for a head count…..
....OK, all the puppies in the belly please raise your paw’s……
Lucy was x-rayed last night. The vet saw 4 pup’s in her belly but was concerned that the x-ray was very light and that she had a belly full of food. So he was comfortable taking another picture – this picture clearly showed 7 or 8 pup’s and potentially 9. It was really cute – my daughter (4 yrs old) was just absolutely amazed at seeing the puppy skeleton’s in her belly. Basically all you can really see is the head and back bone and on some you can see the ribs. Lucy is 4 years old and this is her first (and only) litter, is there any data that might indicate if she would lean towards the earlier or later side of 65 days ? Lucy was breed on July 23rd – 25th day is September 26th (vet said to count the day she was breed). I plan to start taking her temp this weekend. |

Congratulations!! You must be getting excited! It's awesome seeing the babies on the screen!
Have been moving around a lot? I loved that part best lol! Quote:
As for the question as far as I know it depends on the individual dog. Each one is different and unless you've bred that particular dog before you can't really predict if they'll be early, late or right on the due date lol! I have however found that it is generally more common for them to have the babies between 61-63 days. Taking the temp is a good idea but keep in mind that method doesn't always work so look out for the other signs too (loss of appetite, restlessness, movement of puppies slowing down, eyes dilated, mucus discharge, hiding in dark areas etc) |

Excellent – thank you for the feed back. We are all getting very excited for the big day – I will take some pictures tonight….been meaning to but I always run out of time in the evenings ( a 4 and 6 year old, work and a wife is enough to fill anyone’s evenings ).
Lucy has an unquenchable desire to have her belly rubbed at this point…..normally this is something she likes, but right now she has a way of demanding it. Its very cute really. I’ll get some pictures of Lucy’s belly and her Whelping box – and if weather permits I’ll try and get a picture of the ******** hole she’s dug under my deck…..she must be a quick digger since she’s not usually out of my sight for long. |

Again, as Lily said, each bitch is different and there is no way at this point to predict whether she is going to whelp early. Keep a close eye on her. Lily has all of the good signs listed already.
Good luck to you and mommy. Hope all goes well! |
