Buttercup always pees too long.

Since I got Buttercup in June, she has always taken three times longer to 'squat' with her peeing than Honeybee, who goes and is off running again in a second. There doesn't seem to be a problem but her vet said maybe she has some 'stones' whatever that is. I gave her the antibiotic from the vet for 10 days and now 10 days later she is still a very slow pee'er but has not had the 'I'll pee anywhere' problem that she was exhibiting before. The antibiotic was for a somewhat low white blood cell count and a first try at fixing her peeing problems. I've never seen a dog take this long to pee. I am thinking I will have to take her back in for more treatment, whatever they need to do next if need be.

What do you guys think?

No straining that I can tell. She is just slow, like it comes out in a smaller stream but not forced. She eats slow, takes twice as long as Honeybee, and pees slow, three times longer than Honeybee. Everything else is normal.

Sounds to me like it is just a difference in dogs and not a health problem, but it's hard to tell since I can't see the situation. It could be stones as the vet suggested, they are small crystal structures that can form in the urinary tract and then kinda block the flow of urine. But that will usually, but not always, have other signs such as pain while urinating or blood in the urine. Good luck on figuring it out and keep us updated.

Maybe she drinks more and has a higher urine output? Or something to do with the kidneys.. Honeybee is absorbing more of the liquid she intakes, and Buttercup is excreting more of it?

They both drink equally. I give them one water dish, a big one, filled with fresh cool water. They drink like horses. I did a video of them after coming in from a long walk on a hot day. Buttercup drank for almost 45 seconds straight and walked away. Honeybee continued to drink for another 30 seconds and nearly emptied the two quart bowl.

They are such drinkers. Ha ha, I have to laugh.

I walk them together and water and feed them together. The both are normally casual drinkers, taking a few slurps here and there. They both pee right away when I take them outdoors and both will pee about three times before they are off and running to pee no more until they get back home and drink some more.

I hope it is nothing. I'm not sure right now if I have anything to worry about, or if I even need to bother with taking her back to the vet to cure something that does not need to be cured. There are no signs of pain and no blood. I tend to want to just continue on and see if it is just the way things are going to be as normal life.

Ken

I wish I had an answer for you Ken....I know since Roo was put on Pheno he drinks like a camel and pees like a water fountian. When I put him out I can check on him in 5 mins an he will still be standing there going. But that is due to his medication. He also is a slow eater as of lately...Angel is aways tryin to help him out with that...goofy girl

I hope they find out what is wrong with Buttercup....hopefully it nothing serious.

Bailey always takes a long time to pee too. Sounds like she drinks about the same amount as your girls. I don't worry about it as long as she doesn't seem to be in pain or anything.

Ken - some ladies take longer than others.

When you go to a public loo I am sure thta you must notice that some take longer than other to take care of business.

If she has been tested and doesn;t have any infection don't sweat it.
